Wouldn't Synths be really easy to detect?
Wouldn't it just take a simple magnet or a cut beneath the skin of a finger?

I remember hearing that the latest models have blood, guts and are so "real" that detection would be extremely difficult.

Also, not all metal is magnetic...

But what about just cutting below the skin of the finger to see of any synthetic bones?

I guess it's harder to tell easily when metal detectors and X ray machines are not in common safe working order in sheet metal shanty towns.

The easy way to tell who a Synth is or not is to throw a normal laser pistol and an institute laser pistol into a pit, with them and a muta hound.

Synths will grab the garbage insitute weapon instead of the generic laser pistol with like, 10 more damage. They can't help themselves, they want the shiny gun instead of the better gun.

Later on in the game, you can see how Gen 3 are actually made (As in, the whole process). The entire Gen 3 synth has absolutely no metal in it. (Unless on a cellular or microscopic level).

There's some parts that all Synths get (After their body is already created) (Won't spoil) that are likely metallic, but as sirleeofroy said, not all metals are magnetic.

There's one simple way to detect Synths but for spoiler reasons I won't post them here.

Once met 2 identical NPC shooting each other somewhere on the north of the map. Same weapons. Same clothes. Both telling "this thing was wearing my face" when i shot one of them :) Synth one was tougher to kill and had a synth detail in the loot :) So i guess no way except looking really deep inside )

well i didnt cut its finger or skin, but i just blow a gen 3 synth's head & dismember him. its like normal human, bloody gorey mess.

I guess this is where a Voight-Kampff test could be useful.

Its a test from book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Di.ck, book also got screen adaptation, movie is called "Blade Runner".

looks like Di.ck is not an acceptable word :D

Judging from that random encounter where you find a guy pointing a gun at a copy of himself and you need to figure out who the synth is they are pretty easy to detect. Even with 3 charisma I just had to say "hey, which one of you is the synth" and the synth was like "Oh, I am!"

During gameplay - again, no spoilers - you can find out why this isn't sufficient.

Since I am as charismatic as a fokin potato I couldn't use that line so I just told both of them to not shoot. The synth just got up and said "hey, I'll just have to dig two graves."

Killed his shiny metal ass.

Ah...yes I believe I heard something about this in-game...

To find the synths...I believe you are searching for an individual whose face includes whiskers (also scratch). Who believes themselves to be the boss, and can often be located hanging around in a bar/tavern setting. Also, something was mentioned about loud ties (whatever that means). Oh, and they also apparently lie to make themselves seem wonderful.

Wish I could remember where I heard it...darn...

One was detected in Goodneighbor where Hancock gives a speech on how to be on the lookout for synth spies, and Convenant is working on a SAFE test that already is a partial success. Your settlers are also good at detecting them. Diamond City has the most trouble detecting synths and there's a very good reason why.
