Also, not all metal is magnetic...
The easy way to tell who a Synth is or not is to throw a normal laser pistol and an institute laser pistol into a pit, with them and a muta hound.
Synths will grab the garbage insitute weapon instead of the generic laser pistol with like, 10 more damage. They can't help themselves, they want the shiny gun instead of the better gun.
There's some parts that all Synths get (After their body is already created) (Won't spoil) that are likely metallic, but as sirleeofroy said, not all metals are magnetic.
There's one simple way to detect Synths but for spoiler reasons I won't post them here.
looks like Di.ck is not an acceptable word :D
Killed his shiny metal ass.
To find the synths...I believe you are searching for an individual whose face includes whiskers (also scratch). Who believes themselves to be the boss, and can often be located hanging around in a bar/tavern setting. Also, something was mentioned about loud ties (whatever that means). Oh, and they also apparently lie to make themselves seem wonderful.
Wish I could remember where I heard it...darn...
