I also found out if you get the scavenger perk and you start to scrp weapons and armors.. you can pick up rare materials and common materials like steel and leather.
Other than that? well just pick up garbage and store it in the workshop, eventually you will have enough resources to go by.
Besides that? There are also shops where various garbage are sold that breaks down into resources or you can even buy those shipment orders, but i have no idea how they are used.
- do a sweep, kill the bad guys, take their guns.
- Reprocess the guns into steel
- Go back and do a salvage run, grabbing all the metal bits and bobs you can get your hands on.
- Ignore the leather, metal, and clothing (at your leisure). Armor doesn't repurpose well and is heavy. Clothing doesn't at all, so unless you're looking for more harnesses for your stripper colony..
That's pretty much the end all. These areas respawn periodically, but reprocessing sh*tty pipe rifles and finding both new and respawned places to run will keep you in the steel quite a bit. I advise a two-pass run, just so you're not trying to do too much at once. The second time feels a little bit like janitorial duty, but you don't have to worry about being overloaded in the middle of a gunfight because you picked up one broom and pipe rifle too many.
Sacrilege :)
Thanks for the heads up about buying steel from diamond city surplus.
