Sounds like that is the problem.

I move with the normal movement keys in the building mode.

Sorry to tell you, but that IS the problem. Arrows are used for the building menu (hardcoded if I am not mistaken)

It sucks, but it's messed up with ESDF too. It's a Bethesda game, so they put in a key to make it so that if you press it, you will constantly move forward, so what I do is press the always move key and use the mouse to navigate. Arrows will be even worse though, I suspect, because that's what construction mode uses to switch between objects.

I( believe I mentioned this in an earlier thread:

I was having the same probloem until I switched back to default WASD keys.

BETHESDA and Fallout 4 is not user friendly to people who like to rebind keys. Gamepad does not even let you rebind their keys on PC games at all for Fallout 4!

It is messed up. If you change your movement away from WASD then... you can not move while crafting a settlement. However, if you change it back you can!

Likewise, there are other bugs to their console friendly game. To pick up an item from the ground is defaulted to E and you can change it and it works. However, to pick up an item from a container is fixed to E and there is no way to change that. So if you change the default from E to something else... you need to go back to E when getting stuff from your container.

Another major one I have noticed and wished I can change is the "HOLD BREATH" when doing a sniper rifle. There is no way to change that key it is fixed.

There are other fixed keys as well... when lockpicking you have to use WASD no matter what you want to do ... bind keys for stations... HA HA HA... only indy developers can do that... not Bethesda!

In the end, the game is still good - but I wish some of the minor things can be updated and fixed. I am hoping the keybinding issue will be resolved in a patch (a year or two from now) or a MOD. Remember, this is not new to BETHESDA games - they are broken at release and take MODs to fix or a few months of patches. Still a good game.

I have an azerty keyboard but i prefer to play with my game in english, so i rebinded my keys for moving which works just fine, but i can't rebind keys for moving while building, so i can only move back and right, this is really annoying :(

I tried all the keys on my keyboard but i just don't have any move left or move forward buttons. Moreover pressing Q which should be go left it always says something like "can't assign that settler there" although it's E that does it.

That's great for right handed players, unfortunately I'm a lefty so I prefer to use the arrow keys to move with. Yeah they should fix this.

That is my problem too, using WASD makes things supremely awkward for me too.

As a workaround, you can use the Automove feature when you are in build mode. The default key binding for it is "x".
Press "x" and use the mouse to change direction. Press "x" again to stop.
That's what I got used to, but I still hope they fix this.

Go get a controller, it makes the game interface so much better than trying to use a keyboard.
