I move with the normal movement keys in the building mode.
I was having the same probloem until I switched back to default WASD keys.
BETHESDA and Fallout 4 is not user friendly to people who like to rebind keys. Gamepad does not even let you rebind their keys on PC games at all for Fallout 4!
It is messed up. If you change your movement away from WASD then... you can not move while crafting a settlement. However, if you change it back you can!
Likewise, there are other bugs to their console friendly game. To pick up an item from the ground is defaulted to E and you can change it and it works. However, to pick up an item from a container is fixed to E and there is no way to change that. So if you change the default from E to something else... you need to go back to E when getting stuff from your container.
Another major one I have noticed and wished I can change is the "HOLD BREATH" when doing a sniper rifle. There is no way to change that key it is fixed.
There are other fixed keys as well... when lockpicking you have to use WASD no matter what you want to do ... bind keys for stations... HA HA HA... only indy developers can do that... not Bethesda!
In the end, the game is still good - but I wish some of the minor things can be updated and fixed. I am hoping the keybinding issue will be resolved in a patch (a year or two from now) or a MOD. Remember, this is not new to BETHESDA games - they are broken at release and take MODs to fix or a few months of patches. Still a good game.
I simply said up yours to building anything because i cant move because menu locked to arrow keys.
That's great for right handed players, unfortunately I'm a lefty so I prefer to use the arrow keys to move with. Yeah they should fix this.
Press "x" and use the mouse to change direction. Press "x" again to stop.
That's what I got used to, but I still hope they fix this.
