Can't "Talk" with companions.
After about 15 hours of everything working fine, I now have this problem where I can't hit the talk option with companions, I can still trade and everything but I get a beep, the same beep you get when selecting the weapon you already have out, when picking the talk option. I will note before anyone ask, I can't talk to Piper, or Strong but Dogmeat is fine.

I'm also having this issue.

Surely there are others having this problem. This is the first post I've found about it. It gets a little frustrating when you have someone in a newly acquired power armor frame, and then just won't get out.

Finally figured it out. Open the console and click on the broken companion. Then type removefromfaction 75d56 and hit enter. Worked for me.

While I'm really happy that you have a solution, where did you find this and what is it doing, I don't want to be breaking my characters

I found it through looking at factions in the console. That's the id from a temporary faction with the description "temporarily prevents npc from being a companion". As far as I can tell it's used for those moments in quests when companions can't become companions, like Nick in the Memory Den if you choose to take Piper instead of him . What's happening is the companions aren't properly getting removed from that faction after the quest is done with them. This does it manually.

Thanks!! You've saved us all a lot of problems.

I used the command on both Piper and Strong and it didn't work, I checked both with getfactionrank 75d56, and get -1 which means strong's not in the faction, and -2.00 with Piper which I don't know what that means. is there a way to look at their current factions?

Sadly, this didn't work for me.

Yeah, I'm getting nothing from this.

I tried this with no luck :-(

EDIT: I FOUND OUT WHAT CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN.

The bug occurs when you've walked away from a conversation that was still going on instead of picking an answer. I did this because I didn't like any of the answers I was presented with. Found a reddit thread discussing the problem of "talk" doing nothing, and someone there gave the answer. So I remembered the place I'd walked away from conversation, went back and concluded it, and as soon as I did I was able to talk to my companions again.

If you remember when you did this, then this is the solution to your problem.

I discovered this fix about twenty minutes ago. Thank you, though!
