Anyone else disappointed with the lack of weapon and armour variety?
READ BEFORE POSTING A COMMENT

I'm level 60, have over 100 hours in game, and done plenty of exploration. I appreciate the responses, but telling me to "keep playing" and "those guns are in the game" are no longer helpful. I've found all the weapons in the game. Anything that is on that list and in the game, I have found. Stop telling me to go places and/or calling me a liar. Feel free to continue the discussion though.

The mods are really cool and all, but Bethesda seems to have replaced variety with customization.

Let's start with armour. I'm almost 40 hours in, and I've yet to find a single piece of armour I like. They fall into three categories:

1. Raider armour. I don't want to look like a raider but I've got little choice since it's 85% of all the armour loot I find.

2. "Combat" Armour. I put quotations because slapping on a few pieces of armour haphazrdly not only looks stupid but would not be helpful in combat. Combat armour in previous games covered the body head to toe. In Fallout 4, it covers the chest, shoulders, and knees. Seriously, it just looks dumb.

3. Regular attire. Things like suits and jackets that, while some are cool looking like the Bomber Jacket, offer little protection and therefore aren't very useful.

I won't include power armour since you can't regularly wear them thanks to batteries.

Moving on to weapons, this is what frustrates me the most. Instead of an AK-47, M60, or literally any pre-war rifle, we get pipe guns. I'm so sick and tired of finding pipe guns. Every damn enemy I kill has some variation of a pipe gun, which can't bo sold for many caps or broken down for useful parts.

What happened to all the unique weapons from the previous games? Or the unique armour? Nothing in this game has made me look and feel as awesome as the Chinese Stealth Suit in Fallout 3 or the Ranger Outfit in New Vegas did. No weapon has made me feel like the scourge of the wasteland like the Tesla Beaton Prototype did.

Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but it's something I've noticed. Thoughts?

Edit: Just point out some of the weapons from previous games that aren't in this one (or at least I haven't come across)

- Gatling Laser
- Super Sledge
- Tesla Cannon
- Machine Guns of any kind (No, adding a bigger clip to the assault rifle doesn't make it machinegun)
- Lever actions of any kind
- M16
- AK-47
- 9mm calibre weapons
- Pump action shotguns
- Plasma Caster
- Gauss Rifle
- Grenade Launchers/Machineguns
- Shishkebab
- Deathclaw Gauntlet

Edit 2: Striked weapons are the ones in the game. Still a lot missing.

I've only been playing for about 14-15 hours, but I can definitely see what you mean. It does feel like the variety has been cut down a lot from previous games in favour of giving us the mods instead. Which is cool and all, but I miss the really large library of weapons/armour we got to choose from before.

I'm sure it's nothing dlc/mods won't fix, though. Which is a blessing and a curse. :/

Mods will make things better for sure. It's just a shame we need to rely so heavily on a third party to get something that should be in the game right now.

I've played over 50 hours and found at least 6 different power armors so far and ton's of weapons, it takes me a moment or so to get through my weapon menu, I haven't unloaded my weapons collected in those 50 hours either

I agree, but then after fully upgrading my sniper rifle I really am in love with the system implemented.

Have you ever seen real body armor, let alone wear it? I would pay out of pocket for some of this ♥♥♥♥.

4. Leather armor

5. Synth armor

6. Metal armor

7. Armored clothing, yes it's out there.

Don't know if I agree, at least when it comes to weapons. There seem to be basically just as many different weapon types as there were in vanilla Fallout 3, and that's not including mods. And there ARE unique weapons, just like there were in Fallout 3.

Maybe the problem you're seeing has more to do with the types of weapons you tend to find most commonly? Because yeah, it does seem like pipe weapons are FAR more common than any other type, at least in the beginning (currently 20+ hours of play for me) parts of the game.

Agreed w/ armor!!

What i hate w/ armor system, I cannot put all my armor mods to my favorite armor. Armor mods are limited w/ vault suit and raider's gears.

The problem I have with the unique weapons is that they look exactly the same as something I could craft myself, but with an extra stat tacked on. Take the Tesla Cannon and Tesla Beaton Prototype for example. The stock model is blue and uses one round of ammo per shot. The protoype looks slightly different and is recoloured, and uses multiple rounds per shot for more damage. It may not seem like a big difference, but I don't want my "unique" weapons looking the same as some ♥♥♥♥ I made in my backyard.

Not only that, but all the unique weapons I've found were from "legendary enemies," rather then a set location.

I wrap leather and metal armour in the raider category since they wear them so much. I haven't some across any synth armour yet, and what do you mean by armoured clothing?

Wasn't that true in Fallout 3 as well, though? IIRC any "unique" weapons you found were literally just normal weapons with an added bonus or stat.

Also, what does the location of weapons have to do with it?

I've also found 6 different power armours. That's why I said I wasn't critisizing Bethesda for it, I think they did a good job on that one. But for those weapons, how many were different? How many were pipe guns are different variations? How many were guns you already had with a different mod attached? That's my problem. Not that theres no not enough weapons, but that they all end up feeling the same.

There is regular armor like there was in 3 and NV. It isn't as common but it is out there.

So this isnt unique enough to you?

Also over HALF of the weapons you listed are in the game *facepalm*
Angry Canuck Nov 12, 2015 @ 11:17pm
Not really the variety of the weapons and armor that I have a problem with but the looks of them and the fact that you can't customize the non set piece armors. The only armor I've found that has decent stats and looks like something someone would wear was the Minutemen General's Outfit but it still is 30 DR short compared to if i wore decked out combat armor. Don't even get me started on the look of the assualt rifle.....
Proteinabuse Nov 12, 2015 @ 11:17pm
totally agree, I absoulutley hate the lack of variety in this game.
It's not just guns and clothes either, things like food aswell.
What happend to Nuka-Cola Quartz, and Nuka-Cola Victory?
