.308 or .50 caliber on Sniper Rifle?
So I've noticed that my once op sniper rifle is starting to fall off a little bit in terms of damage, so I was wondering if it'd be worth it to upgrade to the .50 cal reciever. Is the ammo common on later difficulties or would it be cheaper/more manageable to stay on .308, since the damage increase isn't that huge?

I use .50 as I have about 600 rounds of it and only about 200 of .308

The sniper rifle is the only weapon I use .50 cal on so it's worthwhile for the damage buff and armour penetration. I would end up with 500+ rounds.

My fully upgraded .50 cal hunting rifle does 64 damage and my fully upgraded .308 combat rifle does 90...This is without any damage adding perks and identical upgrades. Also, my .50 cal is a legendary that ignores 30% of enemies armor, but the combat rifle still out-performs it. That realism yo.

The .308 receiver on my combat rifle deals 174 and it shoots an additional projectile :). My .50 cal, which I'm highly attached to, disappointlying is dealing around 120 and is fully upgraded :(

.50 cal does more dmg. however its more rare and costly... .308 sacrifices damage and is cheaper and more common. however .308 its just crap dmg... it cant hurt anything really armored or high in health... you want something that packs a punch not something that you have alot of... might as well use full auto pipe gun if you want to use lots of ammo and do little dmg

UH is this a real question 50 cal does way more damage than a 308.

I actually have two different hunting rifles, one for medium range using the strongest .308 reciever, the best recoil compensating mods, a silencer, and a tactical sight on it. I use it as my general purpose gun for when I need accuracy but not at super long range.

My other one is modified for .50cal, has a high powered scope, no muzzle break (recoil doesnt matter as much for sniping at long range and the muzzles all reduce range), and marskman's stock (better scoped accuracy). I use this one for scoping out a location before aproaching it and getting some early damage in at long range, before the enemy can get close enough to really hurt me.

If I had more .50 ammo I would probably use that reciever on both of them, but I think .308 is good enough in most cases for general combat (granted I am playing on hard not survival, so I don't know if that would be the case with the reduced damage)

Since when is .50 cal worthless?

just get a gauss rifle and put this debate to rest :) my .50 cal does 190 damage but my gauss rifle does 480 damage, i only hold onto the .50 cal because the penetrator perk works differently depending on the ammo type and 2mm doesn't penetrate anything.

past level 30 when it starts tickling everything

its the most useless ammo type in the game

if your past level 30 and you think .50 is worthless then your doing something wrong... i am a disabler.. go for limbs and avoid the chest. usually head shots.. .but .50 is still just as good as when i was level 15-25.... stop shooting people in the chest... .50 cal is a high calibar round great for tearing off limbs and instant kills on the head. not the best but still good at metal armor on the chest...

Get the ninja perks for 3x sneak attack damage and use the .50 with a recon scope, you're all set

Yeah, at higher levels the enemies get much better armor, you need either armor penetration perks/mods or to aim on spots without armor, like limbs and head. .50 still does the job at level 35 for me on Hard difficulty
