Game Setting Reset
Anyone else having this problem
I am currently playing On Survival mode, every time I start the game the difficulty aswell as any UI display settings I have set have reset back to their defaults settings.
Incredibly fustrating, i read you have to click 'back' to apply the settings but this has yet to work for me?

I'm having the same issues! Trying to get an answer. I cant find anything

Here guys is how i solved this issue:
- go into /document/mygames/fallout 4 and right-click on Fallout4prefs.ini to uncheck the only read checkbox.
- into the file look for iDifficulty ( f3 on notepad ) and set it to the value you want (2 is normal, 3 is difficult etc.)
- save the file and check again the only read mode.
- start fallout4 and now it should mantain the difficulty level.

I solved my problem just a litte bit different:

- uncheck read only in your Fallout4.ini and in your Fallout4Prefs.ini
- launch Fallout 4 and adjust the settings as you like (difficulty level or HUD)
- open the console and type in ' Saveini ' (still being in the menu and after Fallout saved the settings)
- switch back to your ini's and set them to read only while having the game running
- close Fallout and restart it

hopfully it will work for you that way too.

I had to delete my ini files and make the game recreate them. It solved all my issues. I now can save settings and everything. the problem was the files were read-only

Blazinfire confirmed simpleton. Puts his files in read-only, complains about not being able to edit them. PEBKAC olympics finalist. :steamfacepalm:

instead of making changes to the fallout4prefs and fallout4.ini's use the fallout4custom.ini for your changes , i leave the other 2 vanilla and fallout4custom.ini over rides them , works great , super easy to keep track of changes .
i use the standard layout ,for the ini's , loos like this and works perfect .

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
fDefaultWorldFOV=90
fDefault1stPersonFOV=90

[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

[Water]
bUseWaterDisplacements=1
bUseWaterRefractions=1
bUseWaterReflections=0
bUseWaterDepth=1

[General]
bUseThreadedBlood=1
bUseThreadedMorpher=1
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseThreadedAI=1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1
iNumHWThreads=4

[Controls]
bMouseAcceleration=0
