The simulated people picking up your communications from your first Beacon would not be able to discriminate between your first, second, or one hundreth Beacon.
The speed (likelyhood) of your incoming settlers is determined by your total happiness, and the total is determined by 10 + CHA. This is obviously self-limiting because if you don't have enough food/beds/water, then your happiness will drop, and people will stop arriving.
Personally I place one Beacon per settlement, and funnel them into Santuary, bringing it to max in very little time.
Every place is the same. It doesn't matter as long as you've enough space to build things. So Sanctuary is atm the best place for a huge amount of the game. It has much flat areas which is missing in the other "huge" areas, which concludes in "floating" buildings, because the ground is not formed around the things you build.
Focus on Sanctury first if you like to build a settlement who looks kinda pretty. Nigh every other place is a complete mess because of all the high/low ground mixed every few inches.
The castle is a nice place to build. But its only available a bit further down the line. Its got power cables running through it already and you can get those big water things for 40 water cos its by the ocean
Bunker hill is nice but it comes way too late to function as a main base. Oberland Station, Egret Tours Marina, and Jamaica Plains are also somewhat close to the middle of the map, and can make nice bases. Egret Tours is also large enough to do some real building, and pretty to boot. It would be my second choice.
The correct answer is 42 without mods or duplicating items.
You can gain as many settlers as there was spawned within the radio beacon range up to your current cha+10 limit.
While more than 1 beacon will not matter much. The area the two beacons cover can matter. For instance in a large settlement like Sanctuary placing on the norht and south border COULD make a difference, depending on where the settlers spawn in the surrounding area. Spectacle Island having two can make a BIG difference because the settlement is large enough you can actually leave beacon range visiting the other end of the settlement, if placed on the far borders.
The Castle is available at any time. You do not need the mission to obtain it. However if you want the quests to function properly it is probbaly better that you wait for the quest since Preston asks you really early anyways.
