so many bugs but meh
Get the Leadership perk, pimp out a settler in full combat gear, and assign him to a destination, which will create a so called supply line. Your settler will spawn his/her own Brahmin and it looks like a caravan Brahmin with boxes and bags strapped to it. You don't need to provide a Brahmin. The Provisioner will then walk back and forth between the two settlements and when you're on grid with the provisioner will fight every hostile in its path, hence the combat gear.
It only shares junk, food and water, but nothing else in your workbench. So no ammo, armor or weapons for instance.
I suggest you read the Wiki on it if you want to do this as there are a few more issues you might run into. I found it quite simple, but apparently can one mess it up.
If it's just for moving stuff then a robot with protector legs and arms can carry up to 500kg and makes for a nice mule.
^what this guy said.
Basically, once settlements have been linked by provisioners, the physical "stuff" is not transfered, but if I build a bed for example, at a linked settlement with no scrap, it will be drawn from the pool of collective scrap across all connected settlements.
Shameless pimping here....but I made a couple of guides about Fallout 4... and there are some handy tips on gearing up provisioners in this one:

Hope it helps
The Provisioners are Protected (i.e. only the player can kill them) and will only go down for a while when they lose all HP. They will then recover and continue to fight. If you create a network of heavily armed and armoured Provisioners you can make the Commonwealth much safer and gain XP from their kills while traveling around.
FYI: I carry about 2000+ wood, 700 steel, 500 aluminum, 300 adhesive, 300 lead, and similar amounts of all mats on me at any given time. My weight carried is pretty steady at just over 9900.
