You'll need to talk to Father and eventually they'll agree to install a permanent chip in your Pipboy to allow you to leave. So... back to Father and his grand tour!
There is a bug that will prevent the game from moving forward... if you don't continue the newly assigned quest from "Father" and at least talk to all the heads of the depts BEFORE attempting to load the holotape at a terminal, you have a high chance of not being able to leave the Institute.
Dr. Li in... advanced science? (The one with a firing range, where someone is using it when you enter) will install the chip for you.
I have done father's quest on the right order.
I think when Dr. Lin told me about the CHip, i asked her a question instead of answering "YES" and she might've not installed the chip on me, unfortunately, i already completed the quest where i ask her back on the brotherhood, so now the only dialogue i ahve with her, is that she is telling me she will get back.
I don't want to kill Father (yet), i can't use the emergency failsafe to leave, can't fast travel, can't load (10hrs ago), i really need help on this
Check your inventory then extra's or whatever it's called and see if you have the holotape in your inventory. If not then the quest is bugged and you have to load a previous save. You could also try killing everyone and see if it drops but yeah...you'd be ruining your game.
Not a "theory" and you cannot call "BS" on a known possible bug based on the fact that it didn't happen to you.
Happened to me twice in a row and a couple of my friends ran across it too... and there are entire threads dedicated to this particular bug.
Ah but that's where you are wrong - That is exactly what I can do, since quest triggers don't just randomly corrupt themselves. There is always a reproducible method to cause a quest to malfunction in this way.
And since it doesn't always happen here, it is not THE cause for the bug - It may be part of it however.
I don't give a hoot what the problem was exactly. I just know that me, my friends, and several people on the web merely waited to use the holotape and was able to have the doc give us the chip for fast travel.
I do not understand what you are trying to achieve right now.
Sounds simple, but without the Modkit, it's a bit of a blindfold thing where a lot can go wrong.
