Crops not growing.
Maybe im just missing some mechanics to the whole settlement thing.

But, i've had like 40 mutfruit trees, and after 8 hours of RL time, they haven't come to fruition at all.

I have a worker assigned to a Mutfruit tree. will that worker take care of ALL or multiple numbers of THAT crop? Or just that one?

Your settlers (if they aren't) need to be assigned to grow the crops (incase any people don't know), they can only do so many per person at one time I believe.

I grew some watermel'on and they grew. Only thing i have at the moment. Funny thing is there was already watermel'on growing behind the house, but still said i needed food.

You need to assign the settlers to grow the corps.

Also most corps will give 0.5 Food rating so 2 corps will give you 1.0 Rating.

As I said... I have workers assigned to crops.

I'll ask again. If you have a batch of the same crop together, will the assigned settler work all of them? or a set number? or just one?

I also can't pick up or interact with 90% of the crops i've placed now. Is this a bug?

They will interact with all of them.

If you cant pick up the crops you have placed it must be because they didnt grow anything yet, else its a bug.

In build mode, hover over the worker assigned and it should highlight in green which crops they're tending. At least that's what I've noticed. My problem is, I can't get anymore than 8 settlers at sanctuary hills with surplus in everything, a radio tower, and 80 happiness. I even tried assigning someone to the radio tower (didn't have the option), so I dunno. Perhaps CHA or the leadership perk directly affects how many you can have *shrugs*

I cant interact with hardly anything. It won't even give me the green outline on things.
40 Mutfruit trees. and i can only interact with 3 sporatic ones.

But, i also can't really get passed 7 settlers. Everything is in the green for me.
I've started to invest in CHA as well. And I went under Data>Workshops on the pipboy, and it told me i needed more Defense. So i added a ton of turrets. I'm hoping that brings in more settlers.

I get that alot too, I just noticed that one time after restarting the game or quick travel it let me interact with the plants that it wouldn't previously so I took the opportunity and removed them all and added alot more space between my crops which I think them being too close together was the issue. So try closing out of the game a couple times until it lets you interact with them and make sure you have alot of space when you place new crops down.

I was reading another post that said recruiting people into the minutemen adds settlers, and another post said to recruit people at other settlements and send them to Sanctuary. I might just do that as all I really need is one big settlement anyways until I get alot of points into CHA for traders. You said you were investing in CHA and that was gonna be my next thing to try as well as I wonder if your CHA and level of the Local Leader Perk affects the amount you can have maybe?

every settler can tend to 6 plants or 3 defense points. Which means a ton of plants is completely useless.
spacefiddle Nov 15, 2015 @ 6:17pm
For anyone who was lead here by Google:

- Spacing around the plants matters. A lot. After a fair bit of experimenting, placing plants too close together will cause the "can't interact with, assign or remove" bug. Save the game, and reload that save until you can interact again, then move them around.
- Not just space between plants, but between a plant and anything else. This includes walls, fences, etc. Each plant needs some decent clearance around it for the settlers to do their farming animations.

*The game will let you place them closer than you should. Space them out more.*

- The only way to tell who's working what is to be in Workshop mode (hold V), the mouseover a settler while your farm is also in view. Everything they work will light up. You will notice the AI is a crackhead and assigns people to random stuff even when something else closer is unattented.

Because of this, I tend to assign people to "corners" of fields - they naturally extend to the 6 they maintain inward from there. Usually. Mostly.

Remember that you need Food > Settlers, Water > Settlers, Beds > Settlers (indoors....), and Defense that is equal to *water + food.*

I get up to 80 happiness, and then it dips down and around between 75 and 80. I have a feeling that new arrivals might be considered 50 and bring the average down until they hang out a while and gain the settlement's benefits.

As for max per settlement: I've seen "six plus CHA is base max" a couple places. The named NPCs you meet during plot events, that you can recruit, don't count against this total.

and now i need to go make more oil for turrets....

Did you check out the settlement storage? I have a feeling settlers add grown food to the storage, instead of letting it rot on the plants.
DarkLordChuckles Nov 15, 2015 @ 6:28pm
You can have ten settlers plus your charisma, so 20 is max. Space fiddle is also correct about spacing, you can make a whole area of crops useless if you put them too close together.
Erra Nov 15, 2015 @ 6:56pm
Update:

As i get more settlers, they are starting to interact with more crops.

But, is must be a bug or something, because I still can't move some crops i've placed. It does not highlight them in green for me to move/store them like normal settlement objects.
BoydofZINJ Nov 15, 2015 @ 7:25pm
From my understanding - a single settler can only tend upto about 6 crops in a certain radius. Likewise, not all crops generate 1 food - most generate 0.5 food. Which means for 6 crops = 3 food, unless you get the 1 food crop (melons generate 1 food). So, if you have 4 people on crops and you have all the crops of 0.5 (no melons) then you are probably generating ( (4*6)/2 or 12 food). If you had all melons then you would be generating 4*6 or 24 food. However, some of those rare recipes need something other than melons :)
