all companions are immortal. They will just limp if their HP is 0. Either give them stimpack or kill enemies nearby so they can start regenning

My dog stepped on a landmine and died in a gory explosion; then came running back a few seconds later.

No he just stops fighting...
My dog went thru all the punishment enemy can throw. From Mini Nuke strike to swim in highly radiated water.. Unless you forgot where you make him stay, he will happily come after you to .. whatever place you want to go.

Not that I've found so far, but I've started leaving him behind. He's just about as annoying as a Ptera in Ark. He charges around and agros everything, opens literally every single freaking door in your settlement constantly and gets under your cursor at the worst times, activating its menu options.

Last night I moved around a car to get out of raider gun fire and the idiot pushed me off the edge of the bridge. After I finally got away from the enemies I landed on, I unloaded 3 clips into its face at point-blank range with a heavy 10mm modified pistol. It didn't do anything to it but ♥♥♥♥ that dog.

Tragically no. I hated Dogmeat with a passion on Fallout 3, and Hate him even more on Fallout 4. Worthless, literally worthless companion much of the time, often just in the way more than anything else. lol

My favorite dogmeat moment was when I told him to stay in my first settlement (didn't dismiss him because I thought stay was that) so here I am an hour later in a moving elevator and he just pops into existence beside me.
Worthless most of time but useful as pack mule..

Wait, so I can't make him "stay" somehwere and he'll just remain there? How do I dismiss him then?

I wish there was a option to have him stay close to you and not wander off.
