Grand Theft Auto IV's world is quite small, but feels very detailed, crowded and full of life. Grand Theft Auto V's world is much larger, but is empty, boring, and there is very little detail or personality to be found.
I'm going to assume this is the same thing. Less ground to cover, but more of said space filled with detail and personality.
Also, to the OP: I don't know how slow you sprint in Skyrim, but if I sprint non-stop starting at Riverwood, I can easily get very close to Solitude in a little over 10 minutes. The road to Whiterun isn't THAT long.
Well, having an empty small wasteland isn't really any better. Skyrim had a large map, it had mountains, and it had a lot of praire grass and snow with nothing significant in them but it all added actual immersion. With a tiny map with nothing to "take in" there is no immersion. You can't really experience a "vast" wasteland in FO4 because it's so small and they compressed everything into tiny areas cluttering areas.
But the true difference is that Skyrim had a civilization in it, it had the vast lands but it also has towns, villages, cities - whereas 90% of Fallout 4 is small little 4 person camps so far, and a few city areas but the cities are empty and there's no one ever in them and there's no "civilization" and barely any civil wastelanders and virtually no traders. It's empty in the form of NPC's that you can actually interact with, as well as the small map, but plenty of tiny bandit camps.
I like FO3 because nearly every settlement was in ruins. Everything was ruins and not this glamorous beautiful colored world of Oz.
If I thought anything it would be all of America is probably untouched by the war. I imagine FO3 DC being 50% more pristine if it was done today.
The other games had larger maps but also a lot of filler like broken buildings or ruins that you could never enter or just big fields of nothing.
Lol...counterpoint established.
You kidding? Either your memory is bad, never play Skyrim, or you just use "tmm 1" and fast travel everywhere.
