That is the best way to play any FPS. Never go through the scroll wheel or the quick select.
Just bind your weapons (and aids) to 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. and then when you rpess that button, the weapon is equipped.
Trust me this is *much* more efficient than trying to use the mouse to scroll through them, especially since in this game you will easily have 5-6 weapons on you + some aids like some radX or some stimpaks.
What you do is keep the same slot for each weapon type throughout all the FPSs you play. For example, when I play, I set 1 for whatever weapon I dont really care about and is just here to deal heavy damage, 2 is my secondary weapon, always a pistol (except in FC4 where Ia llowed myself a grenade launcher), 3 is my sniper slot, so heavy hitting bolt action with a long scope, 4 is my shotgun, most games stop here but for fallout I also have 5 as my energy weapon, 9 as my flare (to call in minutemen to help me in combat) and 0 as my stimpak (to heal, to make sure not to use it by mistake I separated it form the others see ?).
I hope this helps you and convinces you that its much easier to not use the mouse scroll :P
Except I don't know anyone who likes reaching across their keyboard to activate items or select weapons (or worse, take their hand off their mouse), especially in a shootout. I have about a half dozen keys near or under my left palm and some on my mouse that I would rather rebind than be forced to use keys 5 through = (yes, I use them all).
This game's favorites mechanism is un-intuitive and rigid, and while it is possible to just play through it, it doesn't change the fact that there are hundreds (probably thousands) of other large titles and franchises out there that did it better and have been doing it better for some time now. The cherry on top of it all is Skyrim...I never thought I would live to see the day that I preferred Skyrim's favorites mechanism over another game.
Im not telling you to use the num keys on the right side of the keyboard... im telling you to use the num keys at the top of the keyboard. you should have no problems moving and changing keys at the same time with the left hand... my keys 9 and 0 are for very special occasions so I dont mind to stop moving and just get there with my left hand again. my right hand always stays ont he mouse...
I agree, but I don't think it's possible.
Don't have to be able to type, just learn how to hit a key relative to another key. You managed it with the movement keys, grenade, reload, and other such commands I assume?
In this game you really only need 3 weapons, pistol, shotgun and sniper. The others are a preferential thingy lol.
anyways, this is a non ending debate. this all falls down to personal preference.
So there is really no point in continuing this old thread -.-'
