Codsworth vs. Dogmeat .. Discussion.
So, im still pretty early game; but I cant really decide between the two.

both seem to be able to be 'guided' by manually controlling them.

both can hold extra stuff.

Dogmeat doesn't react to negative things; whereas codsworth will 'frown' upon drug use or stealing.

dogmeat can Find stuff for you, like chems/containers, albeit in a fairly short range, it stil lcan prove rather useful.

Codsworth (read this online today, haven't actually tried myself) can give you purified water, probably on a timer. But, this can also be taken advantage of at all times I suppose, and doesn't need to be your mai ncompanion to take advantage of this.

dogmeat can wear collars I see, found a collar off a raider dog and equip him with it; so I assume there is other dog equipment in game (please don't spoil any other confirmations; just stating that there is indeed items for the dog from what I can tell.)

Codsworth, to my knowledge, cannot equip anything. Again, im not far into the game so I am mostly unsure; but I tried doing some quick searches and couldn't find any info; but can definitely find info on equipment for Dog.

I think I am personally leaning towards Codsworth; mostly because its rather immersion breaking for me when the dog goes 'unconscious' in a cocktail fire; or eats a healthy spray of bullets from a minigun.... codsworth going unconscious temporarily seems to make a bit more sense. That being said, I want to use drugs and whatnot; which codsworth disapproves of. It seems I may need to use Dogmeat, and pretend he's secretly a ghoul dog that cant die... furthermore, I find it odd that Codsworth power source has lasted some 215 years and counting, but my power armor cant go 30min without needing a new battery... even though its cool that he says my name... 8P

So, I guess im really leaning towards Dogmeat in the end. But, if codsworth was less critical of my drug use; id use him... Also, because an invulnerable robot is more plausible to me than an invulnerable dog.

where do you stand? do you have similar personal constraints? I understand mods will help mold most of these minor issues to my liking; but in due time. It'll still be awhile before we get those sort of nifty mods.

TL;DR: Dog or Robot, and Why. Pros and Cons of: Immersion? Character Archetype? Customization? just Cuz?

I prefer Dogmeat. He doesn't complain about everything I do, he finds loot, he pins down enemies (bosses too) so I can finish them off, and as you've said, Dogmeat can also equip some stuff.

I have a German Shepherd IRL, so Dogmeat no questions asked. He shouldn't even count as a companion. He's your dog!!

Plus, who could stand Codsworth's annoying accent for more than five seconds?

dogmeat is cool, because he is an immortal. like highlander or a dracula

How did you get Dogmeat to equip a collar? Or do you mean you put it in his inventory and it showed up on him? I have only found one thing he interacts with, since you don't want spoilers, just try things you might give a real dog that he might like or interact with.

Put in his inventory.

Hover over it, and press "T".

Not sure if this is a spoiler, but I equipped a bandana on him.

Codswallop is alot tougher than the dog and comes with a flamethrower and a buzz saw.

Human companions chew though ammo like there's no tommorrow.

But you can put them in Power armour and they don't use up cores.

Do you have to supply them ammo?

In previous installments, if you put ammo in their inventory, they would use it. But they didn't actually need it.

Isn't it Codsworth has better weapons? He kills enemies more effectively than dogmeat? Flamethrower, electric thingy, arm slash? Sorry, I'm noob.
Companions give away postion too much. I tried it, but ended up going with a perk to carry 50 more and 15% less damage.
