What is the BEST Sniper rifle
I know about the plasma rifle talking normal bullet sniper rifle??

Double Projectal its working like shotgun. So if you have 2 bullets and 250 dmg then one bullet have 125 dmg. You need to hit with both bullets to this Double Projectal work. And thats why double dmg on full health monsters is way better. Ppl just faping cause in stats you have some sick dmg note ... but who care.

To be honest I kinda one shot most of the things especialy with sneak bonus with my .50 cal and 15+ bonus dmg from explosion.

Use your double projectal weapons only for big monster or CQC fights. Or if you need some more ammo (for example since every one have Overseer's Guardian you will just spray with fast fire rate with this gun and kill everything on close range without a problem)

And to be honest who care about DMG anyway? Bots are stupid and this game is easy (i beat it without companion, only pistol, no V.A.T.S, no power suit). Use weapon what you like no because omg of stats or full dmg.

If you like a weapon and it one shot (like most of the time .50 cal) just use it. Remember that you should get silencer bonus dmg if you use .50 cal/gauss or f*** silencer if you prefer plasma/laser. Best Bonus is double dmg on full health or if you like to fap to stats double projectal.

Gauss Riffle is only good as sniper rifle IF there is only 1 target becouse charging is so annoying as hell and also if target is at short/medium range or not moving cause shot travel some time.

Also what I dont like with is that i cant shot when enemie is showing small peace of his body or when i need to shot to enemie behind something like pipes. Bullet/Energy thing is just big like Plasma Shot and cant hit. With normal .50 its simple > bullet hit > kill or reload fast and try again.

I would only use it againts big enemies or single enemie if is not moving or its short/medium range.

BTW You forget about bonus some chems and Perks:

-Nerd Rage > You can get more dmg if you are low health
-Calmex > Double sneak attack dmg
-Psychotats > same like psycho but also give +3 PER

Also there are legendary items what give you same bonus like nerd rage.

Anyway .50 call > Gauss Rifle

This is not even competition whats best rifle of game if i say railway rifle end of story.

Railway rifle is way better much more accurate very low recoil and fast fire rate. Besides nothing is more amusing than heads fly miles away by railroad spike on their head and nails on object.
Picked exsample from net mine is bit better than his tought about 10 to 12 spikes before reload. I can take multiple enemies at close to far with it at rapid success kill after kill fast pace its thing what 50 cal or gauss rifle cant do.

Like you write is not even competition. I love railway rifle cause it can cut some one in half or stick to the wall. But with dmg and without silencer kinda hard to compare it to Gauss Rifle/. 50 cal. But If one shot you can use it anyway cause that what every sniper rifle should do ... one shot everything what moves.

I've been tracking sneak attacks through the pipboys crit counter in the stats page while using a silenced automatic, and have seen enormous jumps occur very rapidly (the largest was 120 when using jet against a behemoth :steammocking:). Not only that, but the level of damage achieved when compared against attacking the same target while standing supports the idea that sneak atatcks have no cooldown.
I will add that I have not tried this without the silencer, so there may be something in that.

Last time I tested it was on a gunner at hub city auto wreckers, guess I was missing the second shot. Definitely have to re-evluate the usefulness of this mod.

Reason i keep 50 cal and gauss rifle bad is low fire rate i dont use vats much and when i go on killing spree i assume i can go in tiny room to wide open space with same gun surrounded by 20 hostile and be successful to terminate anything in my way fast. Weapon i like is like 1st railroad gun 5.56 assault rifle and 308.combat rifle.

Gauss rifle recoil is horrible not practical at cqb at all 50.cal weakness is laughable fire rate.

Railroad gun is most times 1 shot one kill weapon and is very strong against armored targets 5.56 strenght is high damage and accuracy and fire speed. 308.combat rifle is pretty much same as assault rifle except its best with reflex sight. Special not about assault rifle and combat rifle never ruin em by automatic mode always use em with highest possible dmg output mod.

I also point out laser rifle is good too,but like all energy based weapons at this game seems normal gunpowder weapons projectiles travels faster i still put weight on gauss rifle even its dmg output per shot is nearly 500 recoil makes is useless at most situations and kinda bad when light travels slower than gunpowder so in other words missing with is easier.
Railroadgun dmg is about 220 if i remember correct,but firerate and bolt travel speed and accuracy is awesome not to mention fast follow up shots. 3rd at dmg on list is laser rifle 145 dmg low recoil fast fire rate but like gauss rifle slow light speed is kinda ruiner so both assault rifle and 308 combat rifle beats em. Also point out Railway gun seems to hit almost everytime as critical when you make headshot in otherwords head flies clean off almost everytime from full health.

I usually carry 2 weapons and it depends what i use 308.combat rifle does 50% extra dmg on humans and 5.56 does 25% extra dmg reason i dont carry more weapons i like looting,but i refuse use my F upgraded power armors,Instead of em i use "Armored class V courser suit ballistic fiber lining" paired with Bos helmet and hazmat suit at inventory just in case.
Pretty much all my weapons are silenced except onces you cant silence i dont use sneak attack perks because i want move fast pace,and for me its not even essential since i am not using vats much and rely much more popping heads at fast pace my luck is maxed so i hit always more max than min dmg.

I play with no legendaries, I pretty much always snipe in every game I play. I have a melee weapon, which I pretty much never use, the 10mm pistol, and 3 sniper rifles. That's usually all I carry, they are set up for general purpose, medium, and long range. I have a pipe rifle for close medium range, I have a mod that tops the best .38 receiver out at 70 damage a hit at lvl 5 rifleman, so it is like a weaker combat rifle with more common ammo. This works because I am playing with 90% loot reduction mods as well.

My others are a .45 pipe revolver sniper rifle, running a mod for more damage and a faster fire rate. It maxes out at 115 with associated skills and receivers.

My last, and pride and joy, is my hunting rifle, set up for long range shots. With a damage mod it maxes out at 180 per hit. My buff applies to enemies as well, so any enemy with a hunting rifle can damn near one shot me with full health and armor, endurance at 10.

I pretty much have headshots at any range as my speciality in every shooter. I'm playing with more damage though. I hit for 2x on survival, instead of vanilla 0.5x, enemies have 4x damage. It's pretty insane.

I used to carry a shotgun, but almost never did use it, my rifles hit pretty hard at any range, with pinpoint accuracy, shotgun can only do up close. Recently bumped up the damage, so I might start carrying one again.

I try to make games pretty realistic, I know it will never be that way, though. Was overseas in 2004 as a medic, games helped me through a lot once I got home.

The reason I tested was a WTF moment in its own right.
I was testing my automatic pipe sniper rifle against a new automatic combat sniper, and the pipe sniper was outeperforming the combat rifle in most fights by a country mile.....

I had expected the sneak attack bonus to only apply to the first hit, so it took a while to determine that the pipe guns better performance was caused by chaining sneak attacks, as the larger recoil and possibly the noise from not having a suppressor made it harder to chain land even close to half as many hits before DANGER happened.

The crazy level of effictiveness my suppressed 10mm auto pistol has shown at times now makes a lot more sense too.

Knowing this now makes automatics a heck of a lot more attractive.

These are the weapons , I currently use, all the rifles are great for Sniping, the Assault rifle Decapitates most targets, and one shots Ghouls, the Overseers Rifle Pops Heads, and one shotted a head shot on a Death Claw, Reba is so so, no where near as efective as the others but does reach out there for the long shots. The Poisoned Shotgun is deadly at close range, one shots Supermutants and most other targets, and the Pistol is really not very affective but is fun.

Not a rifle, but one of the best sniper weapons for a Gunslinger is the pipe revolver/Pipe bolt action.

Pistol grip, Long barrel, long scope, silencer. Can't silence a laser/plasma sniper. Can't silence a .44 a handgun (and it has worse range/smaller scope, if much better damage).

Long barrel pipe revolver is surprisingly useful for a Gunslinger in general. Just wish it wasn't stuck with the tin can with nails "tactical sight". Allowed to put a nightvision scope, or computerized recon scope, but not a dot sight, blah. And I avoid the recon/NV because of the graphics bugs involved

I dont know why you need fast fire rate with sniper rifles. Cause its sniper rifle you should use it for long range and if so ever single shot need to be accurate without missing. So you hold breath shot change target and same. At close-medium range you just switch weapon to any other gun thats all. We are talking about Sniper Rifles not about "my best setup to fight".

And i already checked pipe bolt action rifle and i dont know how you can compare it to .50 cal or gauss rifle. I would tottaly prefer to use combat rifle or even 5.56 assult rifle then bolt action.

But also if you use Gunslinger (only pistol) you should use laser or plasma (i know that you dont have silencer) because of dmg and fire rate. Well you lose bonus cause no silencer but that pipe guns are sh** for long range. I would only use it at close-medium range. And Cause of fire rate i would use plasma/laser to shot at long range and from 10 shots 5 hit or something like that. Only Pistol (i have 60+ lvl with only pistols) are very hard to fight again long range targets. I would use .44 but like you say no scope.

In open combat, later in the game "Raider veterans" start tanking more plasma rifle shots than the ones wearing power armor.

On my main playthrough where I had rank 5/5 rifleman, and a fully upgraded silenced radioactive gauss rifle. A raider veteran (not legendary) took a normal stealth headshot to the head and still had some health left (because I didn't have any stealth related perks)

"One shot, one kill" doesn't really apply if you don't ♥♥♥♥♥ out for sneak multipliers for many enemies late game, even with a gauss rifle.

Laser sniper pistols are definitly stronger than pipe revolvers, but obviously you never spent much time with pipe revolvers if you think a long barrel pipe gun has "sh** for range" with how many one shot headshots I've bagged on super mutants with one in the midgame using unsilenced pipe revolvers.

.38 pipe guns are garbage no matter what you do for gunslinger and rifleman though. They are only any good for Commandos (same damage per shot as the .45 Submachinegun for lower tier upgrades what the fuuuuuuuuuu).

Seriously, a .38 modded Combat rifle still has more damage than a .38 pipe gun modded to take .45

I've got an explosive .38 pipe rifle and that's still gargabe as a semi auto (Though potentially more efficient than the pray n spray as a full auto).

Download a mod called "Pipe guns plus", with lvl 5/5 rifleman and strongest receiver my .38 pipe rifle hits at 70 dmg a shot. Works as a cheaper combat rifle with more common ammo. Doing a new playthrough with 90% loot reduction, no legendaries, and 2x/3x player enemy damage, they are pretty decent. A side effect though is pipe guns are deadlier all around now, which works in the enemies favor as well.

Also, I have a lvl 50 cap mod, should help with late game. I have yet to see though.

This game absolutely needs mods to be at its full potential.

Honestly I'd keep using pipe revolvers as is just for the hell of it even when I have .44 handguns or raiguns, if I was allowed to use a proper dot/circle sight on them instead of a tin can.

Does that mod handle the sights too, or just damage?

EDIT: My real wishlist item would be a 10mm or "weak" .45 that could mod the full spread of full auto, semi handgun, and semi rifle.

I like the modding system in this game. But it's just a shame that the .38 pipe gun is the ONLY ballistic that can cover all three bases (Energy weapons meanwhile, are great customizaion. This is the most I've used and the most fun I've had with energy weapons out of any fallout game)
