Many times I'm working just fine and weapon switching works just the same as it did at the very start of the game. Other times I get one or more of the following...
* Pulling out invisble weapons that still work just fine.
* Having no ammo counts showing either current magazine or total, but otherwise working just fine.
* Having my weapons pull out just fine but not work.
* Having some weapons that take ages for my character to pull out while others work fine.
* Having any weapon switching take ages to pull out. However, the weapon I had out originally can still be instantly swapped back to and works fine despite all others taking ages.
I've often times had it where pushing the hotkey for a weapon a time or two extra while its "stuck" would get it to pull the weapon out. Sometimes calling up my pip-boy and closing it would pull the weapon out as well. Neither method have been a continually reliable workaround.
As for people saying that weight of the weapon is the issue. Thats not the case. This is clearly unintended as many times it works without issue and switching times are normal while other times it can take as long as two minutes for the switch to occur. Weight does affect, as is mentioned in the help and loading tips, the "aim down sights" speed of a weapon. Having a lightweight weapon without a scope will pull up significantly faster with a right-click than a high weight weapon with a long range scope.
I have the same thing. You can actually know when the weapon comes because the HDD light start flashing i.e. the weapon is loaded. Press the next preset and the same happens until all presents have been loaded and you're good to go. I have by no means a slow computer, it's made to run on ultra settings for Youtube recording. No other lag issues occur. Weapon weight has nothing to do with it, it;s a bug which needs to be fixed asap!
One solution when you get stuck in a long period of waiting for the switch to occur is to call up the pip-boy and equip the weapon that way.
During the times where you're stuck waiting it doesn't even consider you to have a weapon and nothing will show as equipped in the pip-boy. Sometimes you can even pull up your empty hands and essentially "finger gun", to no effect, if you keep trying to fire while its stuck attempting a weapon swap.
The best part is, I can most frequently fix this by using the phone app to equip weapons while my pipboy is raised in game (to pause the game while I use the app)...seriously crap programming if I can fix it most easily though a phone app.
It might seem like crap programming, but its really great business strategy. That free phone app, like 99.9% of the other free apps that every company on the face of the Earth tries to con you into using, is likely data mining the hell out of you.
Hell, even if you don't use it at all ever and only have it installed its probably hard at work turning your phone into a gold mine.
So in the end... a $60 base game + $40 season pass + $?? continous income from a free phone app.... thats some damn nice profits right there. Especially if you multiply that by the 12 million, I believe it was, that bought the game. I could comfortably live off that amount... hell I'd bet I could comfortably live off the amount the app alone is raking in.
The lastest patch seems to have fixed the bug for me. Atleast haven't had it since.
I only had it at the start of the game and 10 hours in but after that it seems to have disappeared or become faster.
The only thing I changed then was tweaking my graphic settings.
Maybe you guys need to tweak your graphics by following the sticky topic here that holds tweaks/fixes?
If you have a stimpack set to the Favorites Keybinding you'll also die a lot because of that when the game decides to either completely IGNORE the keypress, or registers the keypress, but decides to delay loading the graphics for the stimpack
I've noticed that with stimpaks its not an issue as long as you're in power armor.
I'm guessing its because when you're in power armor the stimpak just gets injected by the armor and your character doesn't have to go through the whole "stabbing yourself with the stimpak" animation.
So most likely this issue is linked to the game having to switch to the different model of the item. Two other aspects of the bug support the idea of it being linked to the item models. The fact that you can often switch back to the weapon that you were using when you tried to switch and it will pull up and work fine and the fact that many times you can end up with a "finger gun" that acts like the weapon you tried to switch to but doesn't actually do anything.
why there is no patch from bethi

Hi all. I found the solution and hope it works for you. I noticed that when the game starts and brings you in the initial main menu, the harddrive is very busy loading data. If you leave this loading for a minute or when you see the LED calms down, load up your saved game and the problem is fixed.
Hope this helps!
