So when should i use the power armor?
So i don't understand this, i got the power armor i played it with once when i killed the raiders at the beginning and now its sitting in my garage, i even put upgrades in all the pieces, but when its the right time to use? I mean i explore on foot normally so i don't waste fusion cores but when should i use it, how will i know the area is tough and to take the power armor? I go in die than reload and use it? I mean how do you guys use it?

Anyone?

my plan is to build a decent stockpile of cores and upgrades before I use it properly. I've used it twice now first time in town with raiders and deathclaw. Second for a factory that was chock full of raiders that I was having trouble clearing out...in the end though it all really depends on you as the player.

Same plan as you here.

Use it when you want to use the big gun. since they weight a lot.

level 14 now and I'm finding fussion cores in shops, loot boxes and rare drops not sure if they will be rechargable soon so I am keeping the charged ones for a serious can of ass woopen and the emptys for trade/recharge if possible.

There's lots of cores if you just explore. Any place that have a reactor (any corporation, any shelter, any military base, any communications base) tend to have at least one.

They're hidden all over the map. You can also buy them from traders they cost 300 - 400 caps.
So basically there is unlimited supply and you can use PA as much as you want.

I use my power armor when i run into difficult areas like needing to clear the raider base at coverga, or a super mutant camp. I scout to locate hte area on foot. Then fast travel back to base suit up, fast travel back (which does not drain fusion core), clean up the place with ease then fast travel back and drop off my goodies

Hard to say. I'm playing on survival and it depends on the enemy type, normal armor and the situation i'm in when to use the power armor.

Just a few examples i encountered the last 27 hrs in the game:
- super mutants in an outside base: i hid in a nearby building and exploited their ai to kill them with sniper but lost many stimpacks
- super mutants in an inside base: power armor otherwise you get rushed
- inside base with synths: i wish i had used the power armor, so i lost many stimpacks and got killed with 2-3 laser shots and the story mini boss kicked me with 2 shots (it was easy to kill because of the fatman you get the room before but it was tricky to get 2 shots on him without getting killed instantly)
- outside base side quest boss: even with power armor this boss reduced my hp by 80% with every hit
- inside base with raiders: i managed to get on a platform from where they can't reach me and then it was shoot and cover
- ghul hordes: jump on an car and shot them, no power armor needed

So its either using power armor and direct combat against heavy enemies or exploit their ai and stand on unreachable places, shoot&cover.

Taking Independance would be a great time to use it, if you decide to go the Minutemen route.

Fun fact, your companions can use the armour withoout expending energy. Strip the parts off to prevent them breaking and make them carry them for portable power armour.

Can you die while in power armor? Does the hits take your normal hp you just the power armor pices brake?
Zaris Nov 12, 2015 @ 5:28am
Yes you can die even in a power armor. They just reduec the damage massively. Normal armor gives you about 50-60 armor, 60-80 energy resistance (combat, synth armor) and power armor T60 has over 900 armor. Compared to normal armor i would say power armor gives about 90-95% more reduction and you will need that in certain combat situations.
