How to scrap for gear parts?

Anyone know what item i need to scrap to get gear for crafting?

Adjustable wrenches, alarm clocks, desktop fans, etc. Just go to a work bench and set gears to be searched for so when you go looting a little magnifying glass will appear nest to the items name to let you know it has gears or whatever you're searching for.

Gears, oil, screws, nuclear material, gold, silver, and crystal are the more rare things to find in this apocolapse...
