Lag/stuttering help, lag spike every second with 60fps inbetween
I have searched many other threads which have similar issues none of which seem to have the same problem i am having. Link to my video showing the lag- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWnVveiP3Fw&ab
I have a serious issue with lag/stuttering making the game unplayable. You can even see it when the game is paused as i move the mouse, and in the title screen. The game gives a steady 60fps until every second in a rhythm it lags. I have searched online for any possible solution to no avail.
Solutions i have already tried are
Disabling V-sync
Running in windowed boarderless
Putting all graphics settings on minimum or maximum (no difference to lag)
Updating gpu and cpu drivers
I've even tried running it in a much smaller resolution
Basically any setting to be tampered with i have tampered with and not got any improvement
I can run any other bethesda game with no issue and have had no problems with any other game in general
If anyone can think of a solution or has experienced the same thing help would be greatly appreciated
Edit-
Reinstalled the game, no improvement
Specs:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760
Intel Core i5-4440
8gb ram
Windows 7

I have the same problem. Its weird that nothing changes when I change the settings from high to medium. I doubt there would be any differences for low considering that medium was the same exact thing.

Yeah i thought the same. So it cant be anything to do with not meeting the requirements. And i upgraded the drivers from the new game ready update thing so i have no idea

I have an identical problem, but unplugging the internet connection solves it for me. Not ideal, but...

That's an interesting one, might try it before putting my other GPU back in ...

Anyway heres my experience and observsations on this matter.

with my initial build, FX-8350 and HD7870 2GB, DDR3, I could run the game at about 20-25fps pretty consistant with settings at low-medium, dropped to below 10 during combat with lots of enemies tohugh.
I then put in my new R9 Fury X 4GB, same CPU, plopped everything up to ultra and the game ran smoothly at 60fps, dropping to 45-50 during large combat.
Next setup I have tried is my new i7-5820K with my HD7870 and DDR4 RAM, medium settings the game runs at 30 fps consistant but with one added hicup, I am now stuttering frequently, every other second maybe.

From my experience and reading around quite a bit it seems the game is struggling on GPU's with 2GB RAM regardless of settings.

waiting on a PSU to power my Fury X then my system will be complete (last one went out with a bang after a few hours play :s ), until then it looks like I'll need to just struggle along.

I would like to add to the above comment that I have the same issue, however I have 4 GB of video memory and I still suffer. No matter what setting or fix I try to use from the internet I still have that 'in rhythm" lag every one else has.

I had the same problem until today. On your video I saw a comment about turning controller support off. Inside the game go into options and game options and it should be there. Set it to off. I know it didn't work for you but I'm sure it might help others who stumble into this post. Good luck on the problem!

Something else is taking up your cpu cycles, start turning off your other applications until it fixes it.

I tried turning off controller support which actually seemed to help the lag problem. But after playing for a while it started to come back again. I have checked my CPU while I was playing the game and it hasn't maxed out at all. So I have no idea what is doing it now.

Check your task manager and see if there is any process running related to controler support. I had one running with xbox in the name, ending that tast completely solved it for me

Not sure if it's mentioned, I ran into the same issue I'm now running a Reshade (previously known as SweetFX) preset injector and a Texture optimization mod, and I'm running smoother and faster than ever before, and the game even looks better! (go figure, right?)

I had the same issue and was almost completely fed up. It turned out that I had leftover drivers from some disconnected hardware still getting polled by Windows. You may want to check your device manager and choose View -> Show Hidden Devices and make sure there aren't any drivers with a "!" over their icons. You may have to reboot after removing any of the drivers in question. Be careful with which drivers you remove and make sure to look into what they actually do before you go uninstalling any of them.

if you have evga precision that also was giving me problems if i ran it in the background so make sure that's turned off

if you are looking for more fps and more smooth gameplay then graphic like me, you could try this method:

1. In Option menu from Fallout launcher, choose Windows mode and Borderless

2. Edit the Fallout4Prefs.ini that located in 2 location, Documents\My Games\Fallout4 and also in game install folder

3. Look for this line and change it

- iSize H = [no]
- iSize W = [no]
Change the [no] to your scree resolution

- iPresentInterval=1 , change the value to 0
this will uncapped the fps

- iShadowMapResolution=2080, change the value to 8

4. Save after change, and especially for Fallout4Pref.ini that located in your game install folder, make the file Read Only so the ishadowmapresolution value did not change every time you start the game.

Any other method to increase fps.... Please add them :3
