stealth broken?
Hi there,

I am NOT a fan of running and gunning, regardless of how OP the power armor may be. Unfortunately, I seem utterly incapable of sneaking into melee range. For testing purposes, I even used the console to add all the stealth perks I could find (all five agility/sneak perks, all covert ops magazine perks, sneak bobblehead, sleek leg armor, etc) and even still I am unable to sneak up on anything. Scorpions and mole rats detect me at insane distance and teleport to me, humanoid creatures start ranting about hearing noises, etc. I tried disabling my Pipboy lamp, turning off my Pipboy radio, walking slowly, holstering weapons, and just about anything else I thought may play a role. Still, zero chance of sneaking within melee range of someone.

What gives?

Sounds like the perfect holiday present for my Ex.

Your SPECIAL is the problem, or perks.
S2 P4 E1+ C1+ I 1+ A 9(REQUIRED) L 8(Recommended, possible w/ much less though)
For a stealth melee build in Fallout - You need Big Leagues, possibly Locksmith, Lone Wanderer(Helpful but not necessary), Medic(Helpful, but not necessary), Sneak @ 4+ (REQUIRED), Ninja @ 3 (REQUIRED), Blitz @ 1+(REQUIRED) - Bloody Mess at 3+ is helpful, Idiot Savant (quality of life upgrade to compliment lack of intelligence), finally, Grim Reaper's Sprint (Helpful, not required but I won't go without it).
You should have muffled / shadowed on all gear. Preferably Chameleon as a legendary. Stick to the shadows, and preferably go out at night only. I sneak very effectively, and at level 33 I am one shotting even level 50+ mirelurk queens, glowing alpha deathclaws, etc.Blitz rank 2 + Ninja rank 3 makes everything amazingly simple. Just my mini-guide to sneaking FO4 style.

TL;DR - Blitz. Ninja. Sneak. Big Leagues. Grim Reapers Sprint. All VATs ALL the time. Shadows/Night Time are your friend. Shadow + Muffled gear. One hit EVERYTHING.

^^this. Agility matters a lot for stealth. Blitz is required for a proper melee build.

I think stealth is broken. It's too good and I wish I had not got all the perks as I can walk on most sleeping enemies and stand in a doorway about 5 feet away from raiders etc. and they dont see me. Thats without any stealth enhancing clothing or otherwise. Just magazine and leveling perks.
My stealth characters SPECIAL stats
S3 P3 E1 C7 I4 A9 L1.
Now it's S4 P4 E1 C10 I5 A9 L1.
Bobblehead for perception, one point into strength, special book point into charisma and 2 more points aswell, and intellegance bobblehead.
The strenght and charisama point ups were just perk points I didn't really need in anything at the time. Plus, I'm kinda going crafting/settlement assassin so. I earn all the caps, minus caps through luck. Honestly, I find Luck meh. I don't really need to worry about critting anything since I one shot everything wiht a single melee sneak attack. As long as I'm in a dimly lite area.

Also wearing full shadowy light build leather armor (4 sturdy and 1 legendary, gives 1 Agility and 1 perception). Weapon, Pickman's Blade. Currently lv 30

having radio on makes you more detectable, duh.

This wasn't true in previous FO games and you're kind of prick for the way you're presenting your argument. Can you provide some source?

It's all about the mobs Perception rating ...

Raiders = 4
Super Mutant Warlord = 12
Dusty Yao Guai = 15

Try sneaking up to the face of a Dusty or Warlord and come back and tell us that stealth is broken. If you do, tell us your total Agility rating and Stealth Perk level and any chameleon armor worn (which is cumulatitive).

The radio has no effect on your sneaking in FO4. Neither does armor weight, or even if your weapon is out or not. HOWEVER, accidentally swinging or blocking CAN get you spotted. Also, Chameleon as a legendary armor enchantment does stack, so multiple pieces = better effectiveness.

I can sneak in a powersuit better than this person describes lol

Huh? It absolutely is. 'o.O I use stealth regularly and love it. However, for melee purposes, I wouldn't bother and, judging from the OP, it looks like it's not viable. I use stealth almost all the time, using a silenced 10mm and a .45 or .308 rifle. Does it need some work? Yeah, probably, but it's not exactly MGS.

Too good? Dang, I haven't found it "too good" for sure, yet, but I'm only level 24 or so and have no stealth perks, armor pieces, or magazines, so far as I know. If you go out of your way to spec into stealth though, then I'd expect to be good at it.

Melee stealth > Ranged stealth. Blitz rank 2 (at maximum possible distance)+ NIN rank 3 for 10x multiplier. There's literally no way in the game to trump that damage. My pickman's blade(a combat knife base) hit's harder than a Fat Man w/ all damage perks for it.

The stealth is definitely not TOO good, but there are so many loopholes that will make it end-game high level viable.

I've got almost all points in the sneak perks and I've found that I can pretty much run around without being spotted at all, the only time I ever get spotted is because of my stupid companion

I've almost stepped on Feral Ghouls that were just laying there, the only reason I stop moving is because my cursor turns red and says "Pickpocket Feral Ghoul" and I don't have any stealth gear, just Deep Pocketed gear to carry more junk

+1

I knew his sneak WAS broken when he said "For testing purposes, I even used the console to add all the stealth perks I could find (all five agility/sneak perks, all covert ops magazine perks, sneak bobblehead, sleek leg armor, etc) and even still I am unable to sneak up on anything".

I have noticed with other friends that the moment you start scripting (cheating) in this game, stealth breaks. I'm sure that wasn't intended, but it just seems to be the way it is. In fact, my friend doing the stealth no weapons build was one shotting people with stealth, but the MOMENT he started scripting (for something other than stealth btw, trying to fix a settlement).. the game broke is stealth and now it's as if he's running next to everyone and everything notices him just like the OP stated.

I honestly think using the console for ANYTHING breaks stealth. Just a theory based my own experience vs friends who have used console (I don't at all).. that's what I found.
