Most Common Ammo?
I am doing some research for a gun I will be adding through a mod to Fallout 4. I got the idea from a historical gun called the "FP-45 Liberator", which was a gun that, if adjusted for inflation, cost only $30 dollars to produce in today's money and was faster to factory produce than to load it. It could only hold one bullet, after which the casing would have to be extracted manually and the pistol is recorded to have a durability of only 50 rounds before becoming unusable. It shot .45 ACP rounds, since those were the most common ones in American use and cheaper to acquire.

The reason why these were originally made, though, was to drop them en masse in Europe. The idea was that this gun could be used by guerilla resistances to shoot Nazis point blank in the head, before stealing the enemy weapon. It was a throw-away gun.

The guns, though, never made it to Europe, because nobody wanted to risk their planes dropping useless guns. Instead, they were moved from warehouse to warehouse for someone else to find a use for them.

My idea is to create an updated version of the original liberator that would be true to the original intended use; a gun which uses the most common ammunition in the game for a single point-blank shot to take a more powerful weapon from an opponent, with it's durability worth of shots being only half as expensive as the gun itself. It would be an easy to produce entry to firearms combat in order to acquire a "real gun".

Of course, such a weapon in-game wouldn't be very useful on itself, but it's a cool idea.

So, what would be the most common ammunition in Fallout 4 right now?

I am hearing .38. Is that accurate?

I am aware that this is the mother of late comments, but now that the game's been out for nearly four months, I think now would be a good time to give the most accurate answer.

Out of all the ammo types in the base game - that is .308, .38, .44, .45, 10mm, 2mm Electromagnetic Cartridge, 5.56mm, 50 Caliber, 5mm, Alien Blaster Rounds, Cannonball, Cryo Cell, Flamer Fuel, Flare, Fusion Cell, Fusion Core, Gamma Round, Junk (Junk Jet, found in ArcJet Systems), MiniNuke, Missile, Plasma Cartridge, Railway Spike, Shotgun Shells, and Syringer Ammo - the most common ammo type is .38, as it is used by pipe guns, the most common weapon in the game. Also, if it helps, the following is a list of the top three most common ammo types:

1. .38
2. .45
3. .308

I hope this helped, and hopefully you haven't given up on your project. If you have, however, I completely understand. I've lost count of how many projects I have either given up on or just not even started yet. If you haven't given up, I look foreword to your success.

By mid game immgetting more 10mm than .8 but still a crap load of .38 which has become my bottlecap topup to delete the merchants funds.

seems like a awful lot of effort for a throw away gun....
