Placing fences/walls is very frustrating
I am trying to make my settlements have no gaps in their walls and holy hell it is tough with the new system. Placing fences is especially rough to get a decent fit. Sure hope they work on this part/aspect and give us a snap point system similar to ARK.
----------------------------

UPDATE: Use modpos <x,y,z> <number> to adjust the position of an object in the console. So if you have a doorframe that just refuses to go against the spot you were hoping, hit ~ key (tilde), click on the doorframe with your mouse cursor and you will see a string appear which was assigned to it, then type for example:

modpos x 100

or try:
modpos y -82

then you should see the doorframe move 100 units in the x direction. Now MAKE SURE TO DO A FULL SAVE BEFORE YOU START AND QUICKSAVE OFTEN for safety purposes. Often just to test I will do a simple modpos x 50 just to make sure It is working and then do a modpos x -50 if that was not a direction I wanted it to travel. Have fun.

Yeah, I almost threw my PC out of the window earlier trying to get this ♥♥♥♥ to work right. Junktown looks like the Ritz compared to my settlement right now...

Yea, and why the hell do wooden fences cost 10 steel? I canput up a metal wall with much less hassle, fits together better and can put a roof on it so I can run stairs up and easily install a guard tower or turret.

Maybe I am missing something here, but the entire system seems as though they had a really nice master plan but did not follow through with it and pushed FO4 out the door to meet quarterly profits.

After about 3 hours screwing around with this I managed to plug 2 gaps in the hedges around Sanctuary in such a way that the wall was roughly paralell the hedge and was near enough flush with it. I also tried and failed repeatedly to build a structure on one of the cleared foundations that was true and didn't hang off the edge.

This was the feature that persuaded me to buy now rather than wait for the sale of the GOTY version. Probably going to get a refund.

Walls are fine... Stairs though...

I get the feeling there are going to be updates to the settlement stuff though. The TVs all say 'Please stand by' or whatever when you plug them in.

I know theres unlikely to be broadcasts a post apocalyptic wasteland but it feels like a hint.

Go place wooden fences around the perimiter and get back to me on 'fine'. Utter nightmare and boring/frustrating time-drain.

I have it's a little clunky and I dont like how they hover on uneven ground. Its easier if you look at your feet when doing it though.

They need some sort of expanded view for the settlement stuff and the snap lock doesn't work very well.

If Bethesda doesn't update it you can be sure there will be mods for it. I hated it at first but have really gotten into it last couple of hours I played.

Yes while it is a very nice feature, the modded ones in last games were a lot better >_>

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I really hated that -.-

And i guess there is no "turn off auto-snap" feature which i overlooked?
I did managed to get a metal wall around sanctuary, but there are always some smaller gaps (nothing should get through though) and it's annoying me a bit.
Especially that auto-snapping thing...

And there is no way to change the direction the fence is going with that auto-snap, is there?
Like, letting the fence go 45° instead of going straight in the same direction as before?

Not if you have more than 2 hours played.

... am I the only one who's had no problems with the building system, then? I didn't touch fences, I just used standard metal walls.I've got a perimeter almost all the way around Sanctuary (decided from the drug house across the waterfront wasn't worth fencing and just stacked it with turrets) with multiple gates and it wasn't hard at all.

Under wood, misc. There is a catwalk bridge thing.

Metal wall + catwalk bridge thing = city wall with a sort of battlements look to it for manning.

For structures make sure to use a base/floor. That way you don't have to use corners and the walls snap into place easier.

For fences make sure you use the fence post in between.

If you want to build stairs in a house just use the floor stairs because the other is better for outside use.

This is what annoys me the most about the building in the game.
