Can Only Run In Windowed Mode
Is anyone else having an issue where the game will not respond when attempting to play in full screen or when trying to the sceen with flash grey and white resulting in losing control of your computer and forcing you to restart it? I've only come across a few forums where people had similair issues with no clear solution. Anyone have any input? It's relieving that I can run and play the game but playing in windowed mode is misery.

I was able to run it in windowed mode just as you said, but now it crashes even in windowed. I've updated my GPU driver, opted into the beta, edited the .ini file and I'm still having the issue. Anybody have a solution?

I edited my fallout4pref file too trying to change the reolution and it worked but only allowing the new resolution setting in full screen. If I could find a way to match my monitor's resolution in windowed mode this would work but, I haven't found a way and even by doing all this it's still a nightmare.

I got it to work. I needed to rollback my NVIDIA driver from the most recent update, then edit the fallout4pref.ini file. The reason it was doing this was because of driver compatibility issues methinks. Rolling back the driver and running in windowed borderless with the proper resolution (you'll need to edit the .ini file for this) should fix the issue.

Edit the fallout4pref.ini to this:
bMaximizeWindow=0
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=0
iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

how do you edit your fallout4pref.ini file i dont wanna make any mistake and end up screwing the game
How to download most recent update of nvidia drivers ?

Matizor, the drivers are super easy to find on their website, but for laptops it might make the issue even worse, as was the case for myself. I'd definitely update the driver, but be ready to rollback the driver to the previous version in the case that you have compatibility issues.

sjdenegri, the fallout4pref.ini file is located in My Documents, mygames, Fallout4. All this does is change the resolution for when you are running the game in borderless, windowed mode. This file changes whenever settings are changed in-game so don't worry about messing things up. If you edit it like I said in my previous post things should turn out fine.

How do you start the game full screen? My game starts (and continues) in a smaller window.

Changing the .ini as instructed will run the game just as if it were in full screen, only in borderless windowed mode. The 1920x1080 resolution is not given as an option, hence the need to edit the file.

I edited the INI as instructed but the game still starts in a small window. Also, there was no Fallout 4 folder in Documents/My Documents/mygames. I had to go to the Fallout 4 game forlder in Steam

Did you change any setting after editing the .ini file? If so, this would revert the settings to the default resolution.

I have the same situation, but this method doesn't work for me. I have largest 720*1280. If I modify the "Fallout4pref.ini", game just crash.

So I change my computer also into 1280*720, so I can have a "full screen". But new situation is, every time after talking at the door, when setting the initial S.P.E.C.I.A.L> points, the game just crash again. Havn't find a solution to that yet.

That's unfortunate, tpma, not sure I have a solution for that problem. Are you currently running the latest updated driver? If so, you might have to roll it back, that worked for me when it was crashing mid-game.

No, I didn't change anything else....except that the game still autodetects my computer and creates the settings, but after, when I check the .ini, the changes I made originally are still there.

There are two ,ini file. One in the 'my document' folder, another one in the steam folder. Try another one maybe?
