How does the Water Purifier work?

I just built an industrial Water Purifer in the lake at Sanctuary, can I and how do I drink pure water from it? Does it take in game time to actually purify, because after installing it I instantly drank from the lake and it was still irradiated.

I dont think you actually get purified water from it. Its just a bigger water source for your village. You build it, then you build a generator, then you look at the generator and connect it with the purifier.

That's annoying, I spent a good amount of resources on it and it's generator, not because I wanted my rown to have more water, but because I wanted something clean to drink damn it. half my health bar is rads, and I heard that purified water decreases rads.

Good idea, but it seems like a waste of a few perks when I should just be able to get pure water from you know, my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ water purifier!

I've got plenty, it's just I don't like wasting it especially when I get lots of rads constantly.

I would try and avoind that if I were you. RadX is your friend. ^_^ Also: Rads limit your max health. :)

It automatically sends the purified water to the workshop of the settlement it's built at, you don't need to gather or drink from the purifier itself at all. Pretty much just place, power, and forget.

This. Overflow goes into your workshop, so if you have 20 settlers and 40 water, you'll get 20 purified water at random intervals. This is mentioned in a guide or two as a nice way to make crazy money; I have five or six industrial purifiers at the castle.
I don't even bother to check how much I have any more.
Side note: Excess water can also be sent to other settlements that don't have enough water via supply lines.

it adds purified water to your work bench i had 2 in santuary cam back after questing and found 73 pureified waters in the bench
