Odd Audio/Freeze bug
FIX FOUND!!!: Turn off your Avast anti-virus software, or add your steam folder to the exclusion list. Somehow Avast is messing with the memory in the game.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one facing this issue.

Usually when a lot of feral ghouls or raiders are attacking me at once, the audio will cut out. During this period where the audio isn't working I'm not able to change my weapon through hotkeys. If I load up my pipboy the screen gets stuck for half a minute before I regain control and the audio back. It can sometimes be very aggressive and happen right after each other, and sometimes it only just happens once.

I'm on beta patch and it's hard to say if it occurs less now, but it still occurs here and there. I tried most fixes.

Hey guys, I might've fixed it.

I turned off godrays completely, and it's been a smooth ride so far. Tell me if it helped.

I still have this bug. Whats weird about it is that sometimes I can play for hours and not have any issues, and other times, it happens multiple times right after each other. Anyone else have a fix that actually works?

I've been struggling with this too. Beta patch hasn't done anything to help. Sometimes I can play for 30-45 mins without a single freeze, but sometimes I can't go 60 seconds without another freeze.

Sometimes the music and ambient sounds stay playing fine, its usually the SFX like firing guns, monster noises, footsteps, etc that stop.

Every single time it unfreezes (which can take as little as 10 secs up to 60 secs to do) all the SFX all play at the same time as if the audio "catches up" really fast.

It is driving me insane... and nothing I have tried has helped.

That's the exact same thing that happens to me. It's infuriating and completely random. I've tried turning off god rays, underclocking my GPU and CPU, unlocking the framerate, and uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing seems to get rid of this problem.

The only other game I've had this problem with is Skyrim (go figure), but either an official, or the unofficial, patch fixed it.

I see a new beta patch has dropped (about an hour ago) so I'm updating and trying now. Been "playing" for hours now haha. Here's hoping...

Nope, hasn't helped either. I tried the God Ray thing before, and tried again after patching too, but still no change.

I have tried just about everything I can think of. I just sent in a support ticket to bethesda to see what they say. Heres hoping..

Could you guys specify your CPU, GPU and RAM?

Let's get to the bottom of this sucker.
Nitris Nov 17, 2015 @ 5:35am
CPU: AMD FX-4350 Quad Core @ 4.20 GHz
RAM: Corsair 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5
OS: Win 7

Game auto set me to Ultra, but I've lowered some settings and turned off motion blur because it gives me migraines.

I have an AMD CPU as well.

amd phenom ii x4 955 black edition

Maybe AMD is the culprit? I remember MGS5 had problems with AMD CPUs at launch as well cause they accidentally set the game to use a specific technolgy only seen in newer CPUs.

AMD FX 8350
Nvidia gtx 760 4gb
win 10
AMD radeon 8GB ram

If AMD is the issue I would expect more people to have this problem. When I look on google I really only find 2-3 posts (including this one) on different forums. I feel like it would already be fixed if it was more widespread.

AMD FX 8350
R9 280x 3GB
Win 10
8 GB RAM

Like I said, the only other game that I have ever had this problem on is Skyrim, so I'm inclined to believe it's a problem with Bethesda's engine

That could be the issue but I was able to play skyrim just fine. Still no word from bethesda :/
