Character builds - what's yours and why? any tips?
New to fallout games so I need advice on my character build.

Survivalist- Mid-ranged, scavenger

Strength: 1
Perception: 4
Endurance: 8
Charisma: 1
Intelligence: 8
Agility: 3
Luck: 3

Strength- not planning to do any melee but slightly worried about how significantly this will affect my carry weight

Perception- really don't know how vats work and whether I will even use them in game, I chose to put 4 points here for the lockpicking perk(seems invaluable in finding awesome loot like in skyrim), the rifling perk(not planning on a sniper build but more of a high powdered mid-ranged weapon, and does this apply to shotguns?), awareness(understanding if im fighting satan himself will be worth knowing so i can flee for my life) and lastly the pick-pocketing perk(what more can I say than I loved stripping whiterun guards)

Endurance- this one I thought was the coolest for my ideal playstyle of being a survivalist but after reading through this forum I found very few if any people putting points into this skill; I think it looks super good with the longer run duration(great for fleeing), overall damage resistance and health and in addition radiation resistance, now I do not know much about how this mechanics works but some of the states seem quite interesting such as the ability to heal in radiation and having the locals(the ghouls) become your buddies and even being able to be a plant-like survivor and photosynthesize, regaining health, and the reason I chose 8 points in the beginning was to be able to achieve 9 & 10 fairly soon and it allows me to survive on eating the inhabitants of the wasteland such as ghouls and other humans

Charisma- I thought about the lone wanderer perk in this tree for the carry limit but decided against it for 2 reason, first the story may offer very interesting companions I dont want to miss out on and charisma seems like one of the stats where you either go all in or not at all

Intelligence- leveling is one of the best things in all rpgs and gaining more xp will allow me to further customize my character with perks adding to my game experience, in addition to this I chose to put so many points into intelligence to access high level crafting and with the chemical immunity from the endurance tree and the chemist from this tree it seems like a very strong combo to make my survivalist high on drugs all the time

Agility- 3 points in agility for stealth mainly and it also the pistols, can you duel wield pistols? I want two pistol-shotgun-like weapons as the focus of my character as he explores the wasteland

Luck- The added loot and ammunition seems invaluable for any survivalist and the 3rd point is for the bloody mess perk which seems to be just an overall good damage increase.

Notes** If need be I could take 1 point out of luck and maybe 2 out of agility if there's any good reason too, but overall I wish to create a hardy survivalist that is able to withstand the most difficult of challenges using some tactics and quick thinking, as for the weapons I prefer a powerful rifle-like gun to be my primary against strong attack minions or simply taking out a minion tactically to avoid confrontation and two pistol-like weapons that are good in a close and personal encounter in which it will do heavy damage and large enough clips or fast enough reload to take out a whole group if need be. Im not interested in power armor, machine guns, melee weapons or overall "clunky, heavy" gear, more of a mid-ranged character but not a sniper

STR 5 - Armor Crafting and Melee Weapon crafting, Big Weapons Damage bonus with the bobblehead giving me extra carry weight
PER 3 - for the weaknesses bonus, and bobblehead will give me lockpicking
END 2 - just for the bonuses you get and bobblehead will give me the extra life
CHA 9 - i love the sound of charisma, especially making raiders do my bidding
INT 5 - enough to customise my guns with the bobblehead givning me advanced tech
AGI 2 - for the gun damage bonus with bobblehead giving me sneak bonuses
LUCK 3 - for the bloody mess perk which is a favoirite, bobblehead will give me enough for Mysterious Stranger.

i've never really gone for the charismatic build on any of the fallouts, but the perks sound pretty awesome to me so decided why not, also with the amount of followers and settlements i decided i would like people to like me haha. also i've struggled to find ammo at the start of games so decided STR 5 will be enough to smack some mole rates as well as putting razerblades on my baseball bat.

I think Charisma is going to be one if not the most useful stat in the game. The Local Leader skill gives free passive income. It has perks that make enemies friends and buffs your companions. On top of that Charisma affects all your converstions with NPC's.

Your 1 Strength shouldn't matter too much for carry weight.(10 per point) if you bring companions(gmake them carry loot). What might hurt you is not having access to Armor Crafting (3 Strength). Depends how easy it is too find loot.

4 Perception(VATS accuracy) and 3 Agility(Action points) might not make you great with VATS at the start of the game. Hard to say until we play the game.

Having said all that. There are bobbleheads for all the stats. So if you find them all it's +1 to each stat. Then you can always spend the odd point you get from leveling up on Stats instead of perks.

im plannin on doing a sniper build so mainly a focus on perception, agility and luck with the other specials just for needed perks e.g. armour craft and weaponcraft.

Strength- 1 (no melee)
Perception- 8 (environmental awareness, sniper perk, rifleman perk)
Endurance- 1 (made of glass)
Charisma- 3 (no companions, lone wanderer perk and dialogue bonuses?)
Intelligence- 4 (crafting, leveling speed)
Agility- 5 (AP, action boy, sneak)
Luck- 6 (criticals, better criticals perk, loot related perks)

I want my first character build to be sort of a glass cannon, who takes the combat role of a sniper. Because I won't have the health or combat ability to take opponents on directly or in close combat, I'll need a high environmental awareness and the ability to stay undetected by enemies. Picking off opponents from a distance where I won't be spotted, and being able to sneak around enemies safely when I'm in closed spaces will be the way I want to play. The emphasis on the luck tree combined with the use of the sneak perk will allow for the best possible use of critical hits, and I'll be able to one hit most enemies from a distance. The sniper perk under perception also gives a massive bonus to headshots, which will again stack with critical hit bonuses. This character build would be extremely powerful if the game is going to work the way we all think it will, but it will also be really really easy to die if you aren't careful. Failing to mantain control of your fights, failing to stay sneaky and staying distant, will probably be the biggest, if not the only, issue of survival. It seems like a really challenging and fun way to play the game.

Depending on how charisma affects dialogue, I might take points from that tree and add them to intelligence

xXx 0FF1C14L KUSH L0ЯD xXx

5TR3NGTH - 3
P3ЯC3PTI0N - 3
3NDUR4NC3 - 2
CH4Я1SM4 - 5
1NTELL1G3NC3 - 10
AG1L1TY - 2
LU3K - 3

I will set up my own drug settlement creating dank kush and selling it. To do the breaking bad magic, I will need to be smart as ♥♥♥♥ so I pimp my "1NTELL1G3NC3" to 10.

To command my kush farm and sell mah weed, I need to have fairly good "CH4Я1SM4" so I pimp dat up to 5.

All the rest is inferior, I will get my power from the kush and rekt all the n00bs.

I'm just going to take a 8 sided dice and role the stats out randomly just for the fun of it :p. Personally I don't like pre planing my characters I usually start off one way then end up going a completly different direction halfway through so these days I generally just wing it for the first few levels/hours or so then decide what I want.:steammocking:

the way the new perk system is, you are seriously limiting your effectiveness unless you just happen to get lucky with your rolls. unless you plan on building a playstyle around your random stats, which i guess could be fun. but if you are planning to fall into an archetype of your own eventually, you are going to miss out on a lot of key perks by randomizing your special stats

With no level limit it's good to assume that you can 10-10 everything eventually any way.
That said i'm planning the following;
3 strength: to mod armour
7 perception: so I can boost it to 8 near the start and get snipers
10 charisma: I'm going to be a camp leader, this isn't for the companions but to be a strong leader means you can get people and things to stand down like the mental weaklings they are. Why fight when you can talk like a boss?
5 intelligence: scrapper means I can collect resources easier for the base.

the above also includes hacking and lockpicking because a good base purveyor should always have the best technology and items available.

I may swap intelligence around with charisma and have 1 less point in the 10 stat and 1 extra in the 5 stat for bobblehead boosting.

But assuming everything maxes out any way I just pick my end game goal first.
Still, snipers will be my weapon of choice.

Shoot from afar and if that doesn't work, scream in the face!

Lol...I'm probably going to spend the first hour in character creation.

Strength: 1
Perception: 6
Endurance: 3
Charisma: 2
Intelligence: 9
Agility: 6
Luck: 1

I did this assuming that I will gain 1 skill point in each of these stats while playing the game. I like this build because in every Fallout and Elder Scrolls game I've played, I have always been an assassin/long range player. This build allows you to have all the essential sneak skills, maximum intelligence to max out experience points gained each level, you dont need luck because luck is best with low intelligence, the low strength doesn't matter because you don't use melee and 3 charisma (after gaining a skill point in-game) allows you to gain just as much carry way as the strong back perk would with the lone wanderer perk (as long as you don't have a companion and as a sneak character I never do). The 4 endurance (after gaining a skill point in-game) grants you complete immunity to chem addiction.

Sorry if that tl'dr but it's worth it.

Starting stats:
Strength: 4
Perception: 4
Endurance: 5
Charisma: 5
Intelligence: 4
Agility: 3
Luck: 3

Raising Charisma and Intelligence when having access to base/bobbleheads etc. Having a well rounded perk access.

Could someone explain the whole base/bobblehead thing to me?
Brechnor Nov 8, 2015 @ 2:55pm
Bobbleheads add +1 to stats, atleast I assume they do.
Bases are well, you get to build player bases and homes without mods being required this time.

So bases are the housing I was hearing about. Are the bobbleheads like the ones in FO3 where you find them randomly in the world?
