where are these files stored?

they arent in the steamapps folder, so where are they stored and can they be accessed before the official release?

Probably under Steam/userdata in a random numbered folder.

The game isn't actually installed, so it wouldn't be under steamapps/common yet.

From memory it's Steam/depotcache but I'm away from my pc so can't check it.

A lot of "MANIFEST" files in there. Hm. I'm quite sure I haven't preloaded that many games, haha. If that is where they are, then they must leave a lot of old-dead file trails or that folder has a purpose beyond just pre-download storage.

There are 105 files in that folder, for me, from all different dates. The farthest one is from Sept. 2012. >.> (edit) and as I've said, I haven't pre-loaded that many games. I don't even own 105 Steam-games. lol

...there is one from today, which I assume is my FO4 download in progress.

Edit: Looking closer, most of them are very small file sizes but a few are game-sized. And there are repeat dates so multiple files may=one thing. Even so, way more than I've pre-loaded. :D

Are you looking in the right place. In Steam/Steamapps/depotcache. I have many representing FO4 all are appr. 1 Gig in size.
