Why is the game forcing me to be a parent?
So much for roleplaying freedom I guess.

That was very well thought out. You are prolly right. I read OP as being :steamsalty: because they could not roleplay a trans/♥♥♥♥ character because of said M/F dichotomy. Your explanation is much better though.

I don't know the OP they might have those views, its just that it the discussion doesn't neccessarily have to come from 'that' perspective.

I see no logical reason why transexual/homosexual people could feel offended by this game. I mean the story of Fo4 forbids you to be homosexual, because you are married with a wife/husband and you have a child together, which the wife gave birth, too.
Also it comes up with a feature: The look of the child depends of the outer appearance of Mom and Dad.
I mean, really, Someone can be offended by the way the story is told? This is ridiculous...
Sarcasm?

I REALLY hope sarcasm.

No I wasn't being sarcastic this time. This game isn't sandbox, it is an open world action rpg with a narrative, which in some or many ways forms your character. I mean I totally agree that it would be much better if a story has such an "openness" that let you 100% decide what kind of person you want to play. But maybe these kind of stories are somewhat more difficult to tell, I dunno...

BTW why can't I have sex with a male troll in Witcher 3?
Just because you have a character creator in the game, doesn't mean you're 100% free in your decisions etc.
Again, Fo4, Fo3... Skyrim, Oblivion.... are not sandbox games.

It's disappointing to be put in a specific opposite sex marriage with a kid as a setup, but from a narrative standpoint, I get it. At least there's the promise of same sex relationships in the game, so there's representation and the opportunity to play a role closer to my actual self outside of the intro (though it remains to be seen if the spouse and child reappear). And it's not so much who you are in the beginning of these games as it is who you become.

As I said, it's disappointed - but it's not a deal breaker. I played the child of a less-than-badass Liam Neeson in Fallout 3 and a prisoner in three Elder Scrolls games. I can grumble my way through having a husband and a kid. :P

Imagine the controversy that would have erupted had the setup forced players into a same-sex relationship with an adopted child though. :O

Just to play devil's advocate, if such controversy erupted, should the homosexual community stand up for the notion that hetero players should be able to play a hetero character, or should hetero players just "deal with it"?

That would beat the attention of all the trailers though.

Logically the same arguments can be used in either case, but speaking for myself. I'd have some issues with it though, whether realistic or not, I'd still want an option to choose one or the other even if the tables were turned.

Why does it have to be a female-male couple? Why can't it be a same sex couple, or a trans couple? It's 2015, WE EXIST. I'm literally not buying Fallout 4 because it opresses me and marginalizes people like me. CIS agendas should stop or i'm done with this hobby.

It's 2015 NOW, the game starts in a retro setting. I don't give a damned about what sexual orientation one chooses, but how would you like if I said; "it's not a straight couple! I'm not getting this game!" ...you'd be all up in arms defending your rights...

So F U , I'm straight, and shouldn't in any way be ashamed of it, live your life, let me live mine, and let bethesda create the game THEY want.

irony of that is most who think that way are the ones who should be repopulating

rdr forces you to be a parent and i don;t see anyone complaining about that masterpiece.

perhaps OP is just mad because he has some weird hatred for children?
Straybow Nov 6, 2015 @ 11:28am
I'm thinking of starting up the commonwealths own involuntary human extinction movement. It's going to be the characters commitment to a very deep ecology.

But you just laid out exactly why LGBT folks would be upset. You're forbidden to be ♥♥♥♥, you are forced to have a opposite sex partner, your baby is forced to be birthed from opposite sex... sex. That is why I was confused.

Mount&Blade

Mount and Blade forces you into a set selection of a few roles before you even start playing.

If i can;t have a baby as a woman with another woman... with nekkid hot sexy stuff in the middle, I don't want anything to do with this game =D
