Apologies if this comes does come off as arrogant, or dismissive though.
True, they could add it. They could also add option to make your charachter Jewish and if you select it you can't eat any food in the game because its not kosher. They could also add option to make your charachter Amish and make it so he can't use a pip boy, any weapons, or any healing items and can only walk around and talk to people. I know gay gamers, and they have no problem playing a game where their charachter is married to a female charachter. It's just a video game.
Just because they can do something doesn't mean they should. I don't see any Jewish people posting that they are offended because there are no kosher food alternatives in the game and they are forced to eat non kosher food. Pretty sure they understand its just a game and that playing as a non jewish charachter is not a reflection on themselves.
I always love the hypocrisy here. I'm transgender and I want to be treated the same as everyone else. Followed by I'm transgender and I demand that all games feature a transgender charachter so I can play as a special snowflake.
Again, who you are, what you believe in, etc doesn't matter. Your given a role with choices to customize that role. If those chocies aren't sufficient for you deal with it. You obviously play other games that give you no choice as to your charachter appearance at all.
And this is such a ridiculously minor thing to implement in a game that already has a large degree of visual character customisation, and yet one that is extremely important to many folks.
I think you exaggerate how important it is. I mean afterall you bought the previous Fallout games and it didn't have it.
Honestly it would offend more people by adding it then by not adding it. There are alot of groups that are very against and and while I don't agree with them they vastly outnumber those who would care about said feature.
Not to mention it boils down to the basic point of its not needed. Your not re-creating yourself and living your life. Your playing as a charachter with a backstory and part of that backstory includes family dynamics. So if playing as a straight video game charachter makes you that uncomfortable the issue isn't with the game but with your own confidence. I've played games where party members were gay and it doesn't offend me.
And this is a matter of principle for me. Having a role playing game that offers deep character customization and yet insists on limiting me in such a personal way, and on forcing beliefs and norms on me... that isn't something I want to experience anymore.
I suppose technically the character creator has a prompt for sex and not gender. if this helps.
Ahhh the Hypocrisy. So its perfectly fine to play as a straight macho male in doom, thief, etc, but its not ok to play as a straight male in Fallout 4.
The amount of entitlement people have these day's is amazing. They expect game developers to cater to every little choice and provide options to please every person. That's not going to happen.
If they changed the game everytime a racial, religious group, etc made a demand we'd have the most boring game in the world.
We'd have no mutants from soft right wing religious zealots
We'd have no brahmin because of particular indian groups
We'd have no food in the game because its not kosher and therefore unclean
We'd have 271 choicees for various stages of transgender identification during charachter creation
We'd have no medicine or drugs because the amish don't believe in it
We'd have no alcohol because people are against it
the list goes on and on.
When you make a game you cater to the masses, not to .3% of the population. I've said this before and i'll say it again. If your not secure enough with who you are to play a charachter in a video game then the problem is not with the game but with you.
Apparently for some its a way of life... (literally)
This is why people hate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and social justice by the way.
Also your son is the villain and you have choose between killing him and nuking the commonwealth.
