So is fallout4's world map really so tiny?
"It takes the player about 10 minutes and 40 seconds to traverse the main map."

Asording to a recent article...that feels really tiny...for such a supposed "large world"

they is more vertical stuff then horizonal stuff meaning more content for a smaller area then have a huge area with little content, kinda like FO 3

In most open world games there are dead areas that aren't used for anything other than making the map look bigger. Fallout 4 will put every bit of world space to good use.

the fallout 4 map is bigger than fallout 3, and smaller than skyrim.. then ofc fallout 4 has vertical stuff aswell so it looks pretty damn big to me

the key is in how this test was done

if just running from point a to b in a straight line yes its going to be small, but a nomal player will be looking at things be detracked by newplaces that pop up on the way people to kill for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ running away from that there scary deathclaw etc.

suddenly those 10-11 minutes long walks are alot longer

11 mins. to cross and this is suppose to be small? 11 mins. is forever in a game. Also, measuring the outside and saying its small is not really a ture statement, it's not about size, it's about content. Past FO's have had more content in their maps than most any other game out there. I would be willing to bet than no one can find everything there is to find in less than 1000 hours. By comparision, I finished the GTA V map in less than 300 hours. So saying it too small before actually seeing it and discovering how much content it has is just trolls being trolls.

Dead areas? Ohh, you mean wasteland. But from where it should appear after nuclear war.

Not only wasteland also mountains think of Skyrim were there are mountains at the edges of the map. These take up a huge space and makes the map look smaller. In FO 4 Bethesda promised that player can get to the edge of the map (probably run into invisible wall).

Like someone said earlier. In the video, that I suppose this article was based on, the player is sprinting when he/she can. while in a skyrim video I saw yesterday the player was walking across the map. that took about two hours. I guess if the player had been running in that skyrim video the time used would have been more similar too the fallout thingy.... and ofc this vertical stuff everybody is talking about and so forth, so I guess it will feel and be pretty big! :steamhappy:

The test was done sprinting from one world corner to the next.

Wich tells us absolutely nothing .. We don't know how fast sprinting is or how long we can sprint at any given time without cheating. Or what stats may affect sprinting speed and how that "tester" applied them. For all we know he disabled any restrictions just for the dramatic effect of his "news" ...

All we do know is that the world is bigger than either skyrim and FO3 .. so ... relax.

Almost 11 minutes of sprinting is not a small map..You could sprint across FO3s map in a lot less time than that.

Actually its even bigger than the Skyrim map..ANd it dwarfs the FO3 map(2-3 times the size). Here is a comparison of map size.

sprints in a linear line from one end of the game to another, complains that it taking 10 minutes means that the map is tiny.

Kind of what I tried to say, and I completely agree ! its going to be big! Hype!

It's not tiny, Fallout 3 tooke me today 18 minutes to run through it diagonally (and this without sprint, and F4 has faster movement in general)

So in the end it's about the same size or F4 is a bit bigger. So don't worry ;)
