Why do folks hate the male voice actor so much? **Spoilers may abound**
It seems like mostly everyone really loves the female protagonists voice, and I will admit she's really good. However in my play through as the male protagonist I really can't see why he's hated so much.

I really enjoy his voice and while he dosen't chew the scenery and sometimes seem a bit calmer thain she should be, I feel he does a great job and his sarcastic and 'evil' responces to situations really pack a punch.

I can't be the only one right? Does anyone else out there also like the male protaginist?

He sounds like a total windbag in the "evil"/disdainful responses.

Wait, people hate him? Must have missed that.

There is a male voice actor? ^^ (never played male yet)

I don't think that the male voice is bad, but the female voice is really good, even though the voice actor doesn't have that much to work with.

many people project themselves as the game protaganist, and having the lead character speak ruins much of the immersement.

Gordon Freeman does not speak; would you want him to? What would he sound like? It would be like the coka cola wars all over again.

he is generically voiced. his level of emotion is only appropriate during conversations that require no emotion. it isn't the actors fault, most of the time. it is just generic writing.

if you watch nuclear armegedon, get frozen in a vault, watch your family destroyed, and then awaken in a world of mutants and death you are NOT going to be calm about that. you are going to be confused, at the very least. but this guy just talks like everything is normal. it doesn't fit, and that bothers many people.

Certain lines were clearly directed to have emotion, but most lines are just generic stuff, so you get these weird moments where your character goes from emotional to normal and back in a matter of seconds.
I will say I honestly never had an issue with him showing emotion, I don't think he's that flat. He might seem a little calm in certan situations but that depends on the choices I made.

Perhaps it really is just me. o_O I enjoy my protagonists voice alot also when when you confront Kelogg and choose the two 'revenge' style options he has some fantastic lines.

To be fair, the family and the destruction of the world do not seem that important regardless of the voice acting.

My character started planting corn to make glue and got romantically involved with a hot reporter before making a real effort to find/avenge the aforementioned family.

He's dull. Female isn't that much better.

The male voice actor sounds like he is phoning in some lines. He sometimes does a good job and sometimes doesn't.
Whargoul Dec 20, 2015 @ 3:52pm
Because it's viewed as a caucasian american voice.

Because he sounds like a pansy and a whiner.

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loved the male voice actor. The voice acting isn't perfect but it's a lot better than some other male protagonist voices in other Triple A games.

What I wish we had were different voice packs. His voice doesn't fit on anything other than a select few Western European ethnicities. Certainly doesn't fit on my Japanese character.
