Castle build limit

I feel like I built up a whole lot more in my other settlements. I built one (relatively small) building and I'm nearly at the cap. I guess we can't build there because the existing structure is so big? Or is there a cache of crap somewhere I need to scrap.

You can build there.

Drop items on the floor - go to build mode and store or scrap the stuff you've dropped. This lowers the bar so you can build more.
For now it's a glitch in the game, hopefully they will increase the build limits at some point.

I think all of the stuff thats inside the castle, tables, chairs etc does count to the total though, i removed all of that before I started building and could manage a fair bit before I ran into the limit.

Well, if you could drop them all in a container and scrap them but hell scrap them individually off the floor, I did try it but it was hundreds of items, I gave up at about 20 and rolled back my Save. Castle, walk around in build mode and scrap stuff [tables chairs etc]. That 'Size' bar on far right of your hud at top will reduce.

Different settlements have different limits and the castle has a low one due to it being so close to all those buildings across the pond.

The castle Settlement size was just right for me, all you need to do in the building is fix up the collapsed walls with Concrete Foundatiion floors, the rest is easy, plenty of inside room for the beds, cooking stuff, trade stations etc

add food around the center, defense along the top of the castle walls, simple
