I don't understand how locks work
I've tried looking up eay lock opening, but nothing helps. Rotate the bobby pin and I do not see any option to move the screwdriver. I'll play buckethead...how in step by step directions do you even do that?

The default keys for KB are A and D.

the screwdriver is automatic, all ya have to move is the bobbypin

then hit the key to rotate the tumbler

Just like in Skyrim

and just like in Fallout 3.

He doesn't have Skyrim or Fallout 3, so I doubt telling him they have a similar system helps.

As Cursed Panther said, press A or D to rotate the lock, if it just shakes, then the bobbypin is not in the right location, move it around and try again. You'll know you're close to the "sweet spot" when the lock actually has some give and rotates a bit. You'll have the right location when it rotates a full 90 degrees.

Thanks for saying that Contralto. I do not have Fallout 3 or Skyrim. I've never even played them at all. Fallout 4 was a gift (an early Xmas Gift) from my wife for doing my finals (retired army, pretty old, going back to school)

You have to move the lock with your mouse and the bobby pin with A or D, as mentioned above.

Don't hold down A or D. Just press it a little, tender-tender, for one second or less. If you just hold the key down, you'll move too fast and your bobby pin breaks. So, press A for half a second. If the lock shakes, it's not the right direction. Move the lock with your mouse and try at another position. Repeat that until the bobby pin doesn't encounter resistance anymore. The less the lock shakes, the closer you are to the correct position.

PS: You don't have to click anything with your mouse, just move it as if you looked around

Wow sorry to say your wife is treating you like a kid. Giving you a reward for doing your homework and getting good grades, sounds like she is your mom not your wife. Christmas gifts are just given not earned. Take your balls back man.

Ok a few things, without using the rude words I would normally use. First, she wasn't treating me like a kid. She was being nice to me because she saw I was really busy and working hard doing my finals for the semester. You know, because, I haven't been in school in for a long time. You miss the part about retired army? I have a BFA already, but its been nearly 30 years since I've been in class. I was doing other things, like army stuff. Trust me, I've got my balls. When you get shot at let me me know how yours feel. But hey beat up on a disabled vet if it makes ya feel better about your "skillz". Secondly do you feel bettwer now? I mean, you gotta throw in some BS stuff like that I assume it was to make you're own ego feel better. Sharing it with your friends or something? Thats kinda pathetic in my opinion. You could have just said nothing instead of attacking someone you don't know. (and getting it wrong in the process). At least now you have something to do. Coming up with some crazy (probably false) response. Have a good night.

wilsonstone, there is a lot of this stuff going on in these forums. This chest pounding by youngsters that need to prove they are better than everyone else. Let me applaud you for serving our country, and for having the guts to go back to school after 30 years.

Thanks. Going back to school wasn't any easy decision. (Because as I said I already have a degree. But I wanted to do more than just sit back on retirement and disability. Which, yeah, I could do. Who wants to do that, though? Its boring.) I don't want to be in any stupid flame war for asking a question here. But I also don't want to have someone tell me to get my balls back after 20 plus years of service and friggin' painful surgery on my ******ned spine for injuries I got doing it. But enough of whatever that guy said. He is not worth the attention.

true. Not worth the effort. Before FAllout 4 came out, i spent hours ducking troll ♥♥♥♥. Once the game came out, i figured my time was better spent playing the game. Now i just come on the forum once a week or so, to see what is up. Hope you are enjoying the game.

Hey, I know man. As I said, the wife got the game for me because some younger people she works with told her "If you husband likes computer games he shoud try it!". We've been married for 23 years and don't have any children. So she figured to let me hav it now instead of letting it sit ubder a tree for weeks when we both have enough gifts for eash other under that tree already.

And yes, I like playing games on the computer, even at the over fifty years old age that I am. But I'm used to playing stuff like SWTOR, Simcity and the Civilization series. Fallout is a bit diffent. I do like the story though. I try to do it without "spoilers" but apparently there are a lot of things not readily obvious to newbies. Thats why I posted the OP in the first place.

Just because someone is being an ass doesn't give them a free pass with no response either. Thats how bullies and blowhards get their much needed ego inflation.
