Abernathy Farm Bugged?
Okay, so I'm starting to think my entire Abernathy Farm settlement is bugged or something. When I assign a settler to something it can take up to 5-10 minutes before it actually assigns them to it, a problem I don't have at any other settlement I might add, Also, I had decided to do something a little experimental with Abernathy and build all my ships inside my Settler's Shack on the second floor, but every time I try talking to one of the merchants, doesn't matter which one it is, all they say is "Huh?" I can't even trade gear with them. Does any have any clue what's gone on here or how to fix it?

Also, if anyone's wondering, yes I also have that damaged Tato that you can't fix bug at Abernathy, I've even tried markfordelete on them, they will not go the hell away

Note: Also, the other, non-merchant NPCs behave as normal, I can trade gear with them, and Connie can behave as her normal merchant self while she's out in the feld.

I only plant Mutfruit. One plant is worth 2 Tato plants.

I think two tatos sell for twice as much as one mutfruit if you are selling your crops and want the most caps from your settlement.

As much as I hate to say it, this has been the only actual relivent comment so far. I wasn't telling you guys about the Tato problem to try to fix the tato problem, I don't care about that,. I was letting you know about it because it may be related. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the setlers or the actual settlement location itself or my settlement design. If it's my settlement design, that's fine, I'll rebuild. If it's the location, then screw it, I'll destroy the beacon, kill the people and level the place, never to return, but I'm looking for construcive information that will help me figure this out

Edit:I'd rather not levle the place if I can avoid it though, I've already investied heavily in both caps and resources in this place

And it takes 3 tato, 3 corn, and 3 mutfruit to make Vegetable Starch, which is adhesive.
So if you craft a lot and want en endless supply of adhesive, I suggest you devote one farm to each crop

Farms with special NPCs can bug out. It unfortunately makes any place that has a "family" there a real nuisance to manage. Thing is, all assignments you order are handled in a single queue apparently, and to make it worse, the game also uses that same queue when something is wrong. Now, with those silly family NPCs, what's usually wrong is their bed situation. Once they start to bug out, they stop using their pre-owned beds that no normal settler can use, and the game desperately tries to reassign beds for the fools. In the worst case, all while you stand there and assign them jobs at the same time. That stacks up the queue and it takes forever (like those 5-10 mins you mentioned) to finish.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do since the game doesn't tell you what's wrong, but you can try to fix it:
First, make sure noone sleeps without a roof, especially in the pre-build Abernathy house. For one, the whole area where there's one matrasse on the floor isn't valid.
Secondly, make sure you got a factor of 6 in your food supply, as in 6 or 12 or 18 or 24. If not it means a farmer could be looking for a last food item to harvest.

If still nothing helps, you can try to reassign beds one by one. Just don't remove too many beds at once or the game will crap itself again by trying to assign them automatically.

...and if nothing else helps, you might as well consider a purge and disable + markfordelete everyone but the Abernathys.

Finally, the comment I've been looking for. I've done the bed thing, but I'll try the food thing and if that doesn't help I'll try destroying the beacon, markfordelet-ing all the people but the Abernathys and see if that makes a difference. Thanks so much

Haha! The bed thing + the food seems to have fixed the problem so far. I havn't needed to assign anyone to anything yet, so I can't say if that's fixed, but all the merchants are working when they weren't before, Mr. Fury, you're my hero

I don't think this bug has anything to do with the settlement in the first place, I have it randomly all over the place.

Unfortunately it happens all the time in sanctuary hills, which is my main base.

No shop assignment works there and also assigning them to other tasks usually leads to them slowly getting out of the chair and after 3 steps of walking, complete amnesia.

"Right, I think I wanted to hammer against the wall here for absolutely no reason other than making noise."

The whole system is pretty much broken to the bone and my gut feeling is, that this was the last feature they worked on.

You have it all over the place because the game reinstates that table every single time it has to load a settlement, and if it stupidly thinks there's anything to optimize, from roofless beds to unharvested crops and unemployed settlers, it just ♥♥♥♥♥ everything up over and over again.

Not sure if it was the last thing they added, heh, but they sure didn't put much thought in it. The way the auto-assignment clogs up the queue until the player's orders take literally forever to get processed is just abysmal. It's why you want to make sure your food and bed stuff doesn't make that auto-assignment kick in, otherwise you get bed situations and assignment lags every time to visit a place. It's a real mess...

The positive aspect of this, although one could also see it as rather negative, is, that this whole feature does not really serve a purpose in the game anyway, it is just a cosmetical timesink.

Yea, it drives people away from an otherwise completely pointless timesink. I think that's a plus too. :)

this is off topic but i was 'harvesting' the crops at abernathy farm and i found a warhead i don't know if this is a bug or because of the mods i have does anyone know anything about this i can't drop it because it says its a quest item.
also i would like to point out that none of the mods add things into the game most are just graphics changes
