oh my god I LOST EVERYTHING
OK, it's a given that I'm a newbie when it comes to fallout universe, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I stored all my junk & weapons in the police station, inside some desk.. I didn't make much of it. I stored it there because it felt safe, no raiders every attacked it. I even stored there my original Vault 111 suit.

So, after I dealt with Kellog (no spoilers here!) I got notified to return to the police station and when I got inside, there were other members of brotherhood and everything was re-organized... along with my dear table that had basically EVERYTHING INSIDE. The table is GONE. I lost virtually everything I stored - including my vault 111 suit!!!!

I have no idea what to do now.

Try loading an earlier save, or start over. That's really it. If the objects were garbage collected out, you will never get them back unless you console hack.

what made you believe it was safe storage in the first place? Well for the next time only safe storage are really in workbenches, some houses and your storage on the prydwen, institute and probably some other places

If you missed the vault 111 suit (new) version that was sitting on the floor in vault 111 you can pick a new one up down there.

yeah, try to reload as many earlier saves as you have. There should be quite a lot if you never cleaned out your saves folder and had default auto save options on.

This is why you use settlement workshop benches for general storage, regardless of "roleplay".

You gotta put game mechanics reality over immersion attempts, unless you want to **** yourselfover.

Many of these games don't (usually) reset containers on you if you are using them for hobo storage.

This game seems also wildly arbitrary on when and if areas are reset. Some places have had the same set of raider corpses all game for me. While now that I'm late in game, I often see corpses vanish as soon as I'm done looting them.

So I expect there is some upper limit of "random corpses and containers we'll save" I'm hitting while it's still trying to preserve every corpse in the corvega auto plant since I cleaned it out around level 12.

You'll have to reload your save to before the mission, get all of your stuff out of there, and play the mission again.

If you need a 100% safe place to store stuff, you can store stuff in any workbench in any settlement and it'll never disappear (except for the junk you store in your workbench, that will be used up when you build stuff, but weapons etc. will never dissapear from there)

Save your caps and buy the house in DC.

well I played a lot of skyrim so I know what is probably safe

There are weapon and armor crafting stations in Diamond city too, so those are likely safe storage without spending 2,000 caps on a tiny house gated through an extra loading screen.

thanks, I suppose I could do that, but I'd have to go way, way back.. like the whole meatbag-clues thing... and I barely made that in the first place. I suppose I can go look for a new vault 111 suit as suggested and say farewall to everything else.

What made me think it was a safe place? Well, nobody attacked the police station as far as I could tell and I had quite a few problems with other settlements. This should never happen!

Also, where is meatbag? After the Kellog thing, meatbag is nowhere to be found.

Just use the console cheats to regain everything. The console canbe used to add items to your inventory.
ZigZach Dec 14, 2015 @ 2:24pm
I've read that your workbenches in settlements will have items removed from them by settlers (this was in mention to food/aid items, so I'm not sure if everything is safe. I've found that containers I've placed in settlements aren't bothered by my settlers. Also on the mention of placing items in public containers being safe, if they had played any Bethesda RPG before this they would know that's a bad idea. Or even living in the real world, do you often place valuables in random desks in somebody's office?

How the faq? The damn game makes a new autosave like every 5-10 minutes at most, are you deleting them or something? D:

No, I meant, I couldn't just fast-travel from the Kellog's hideout to police station, because I'm inside a building. And after that part, everything is already dost. So I'd have to go before I've done any investigating with meatbag. But ZigZach is right, I suppose this is part of the experience. I did manage to split my inventory to three ways (sanctuary, the castle, police station). I'll have to go back and see what the actual damage is, but I'm sure I've lost that sword that does a lot of damage to the machines, a couple of rocket launchers, some mean rifle that did 80+ dmg (that's a lot in my world) and a whole bunch of junk.

Don't worry about it too much. I was about 200+ hours in when I started over, simply because I broke some side quests and ruined a settlement. Although I had already beaten the story, so I atleast made a whole playthrough.
