Not liking the new V.A.T.S
I liked it when time stood still. Anyone else?

For me its bitter sweet, i love it because when fighting things like mirelarks or ghouls i can wait for them to expose their weak spot.

For things like boat flies and the blood bugs, its aweful because i cant target the body.

I actually hate V.A.T.S. because the game pretty much forses you to use it in harder modes, and it slows the gameplay down. Bullet time was awasome when it came out for max payne in 2003 but those days are long gone.

I really down want to watch a slow mo kill over and over and over just to get through my targets.

Like said above, I find it mixed. I get hit while in V.A.T.S because time is still going but it has given me the ability to wait for enemies to expose themselves. It has also given enemies the ability to hide behind something as well though.

couldnt agree more, VATS is lame. Shouldnt be able to completely stop time and hand pick all your shots in every encounter. At least time moves a little in VATS now...

there was a bullet time mod for FO3 that replaced VATS with bullet time and it made the game so much more fun, and gave it a little challange.

There's a mod called Classic V.A.T.S. on the Fallout 4 nexus. It's pauses time just like previous Fallout games.

The irony
This new VATS is taken directly from the user made mod "Fallout Wanderer's Edition" that instead of stopping time, just made it go 50% slower.
It was made because people didn't like time stopping when using VATS.

Now in this game, people want the old VATS back.

I wish there was a choice between the two, because in some instances the 50% slow time is PERFECT, and in other instances the complete time stop is PERFECT.

I love the new VATS

To use in sniper mode, from a very far distance it still isn't good enough.
To shoot grenades it's utterly awful.
To scroll to your favorite body part of enemy X while under fire from enemies V,W,X,Y and Z it's even worse,
especially since my framerate drops or the commands are just to slow to respond.
but it's nice to wait for the enemy to expose the weak points and I like that you can abort the whole thing and assign manual criticals, though.

A still one would be sublime, maybe I install aforementioned mod.
Personally, I thought it was good change. Helped the game feel a little more dynamic, rather than an abrupt pause every time you're in a good scrap.

Also, I remember using VATS at the wrong instant in earlier fallout games. For example, I press VATS mode and my target just happened to go right behind the wall, so now I have to exit VATS and re-enter the next moment. In slow motion, however, the target will slowly to where I have a better opportunity and I can readjust.

You can make it work in your favor - I'm confident you can find a likeable advantage.

I like it for shotgun blasts to mirelurks that are right up on your face. I don't need to, I just find it so satisfying.
Otherwise it's tough to use, tough to actually click a body part. I never used it much in 3 or NV, except to shoot weapons out of mutant hands becuase again, I enjoyed the humor of it.
I consider it complete chickenshit of me to use against deathclaws, or any other tough boss-like enemies. I should just go sit at the kiddy's table in that case. :)

Like most things in FO4, it's pretty much pro / contra.

I like that it feels more interactive and you have to be fast when using it, this is a pretty big change against the timestop in FO3 where you could take your time to check out the best shots.
But what totally sucks is when you line up a 95% combo on a target and it moves behind some trivial cover like a stair railing = all shots hit the cover instead.
Also you still can't use grenades/items or command companions, so the "turn based factor" hasn't improved at all.

New Vats is great, I prefer the extra challenge. To each his own.

I prefer the way it works in FO4. One of the worst things was when you triggered VATS, only to find that they guy you're aiming for just so happens to be covering his face with his arm at the exact moment time froze. So then you have to cancel and re-VATS it. I also like the way it keeps the pressure up, since you can't just freeze time the instant you get attacked and check where all the enemies are. If you take your sweet time now, you're going to start taking damage.
