Institutionalized...choices permanent? (SPOILERS)

I just completed Institutionalized. I chose to meet the scientists so I could explore and see what all the Institute is up to figuring i'd have a definite yes or no choice about joining once i was finished.

So, I explored the building and took everything that wasnt nailed down. Made it a point to grab Virgil's serum. Through out the course of this I never gave a definite answer on whether I wanted to join. Not even when they wanted to install the courser chip in my Pip-boy. then I went back to Shaun and was given a quest to hunt down Gabriel.

I immediately went back to Virgil to give him the serum but I fail the quest upon entering the cave and Virgil turns hostile.

So obviously the cititzens of the Commonwealth now see me as a member of The Institute even though I never made a definite choice in the dialogue and had a courser chip shoved down my throat

I definitely do not want to side with The Institute on this particular playthrough. Some information online seems to suggest that you can leave The Institute later in the quest line. Can someone, without spoilers, verify that this is true? And if you arent able to, at what point during Institutionalized are you officially a member of The Institute? I'd like to know so I know how far to revert my game to...

I you can permanent until doing the quest "Mass fusion" there, while doig the quest a notice will pop up Warning you this interaction will make you a permanent enemy to the BOS. You can stop there and do other factions quests

You could always kill that annoying Gorilla fetishest. Best way to get kicked out of the institute.

Oh good sir xD There is a bug with Virgil. You need to enter his cave without Power Armor on, if you have it on he bugs out and automatically becomes your foe.

The game will tell you when taking part in a certian mission will betray a faction. Just play a faction that is against the Insitute.

If you were in power armor there is a bug were he turns hostile, also, targeting helm of the power armor can screw up and turn nutrel characters hostile, load a previous save before virgil started attacking you, and enter the cave with out power armor on.

Good to know that you can change your mind...I may be fickle, but i know that I do not want to join The Institute.

Father may be your son but hes also entirely too prententious and for my tastes...

You can always kust kill off factions by shooting them (it is beyond diificult to do), but you can "Join" the Institute to do what ever snooping aroung you need to do for other factions, but you do not join the institute till you complete institute quests

P.S: If your not going to side with BOS nor the institute, DO NOT finish the BOS quest "blind betrayal" while you have the quest "Mass fusion", the quest NPC is standing side by side and ingram will just keep telling you to talk to the cptain.
