How the HELL do you save Kent!? (Shroud Quest)

I've got a damned six crank laser musket, tried my maxed sniper rifle with additional 10 poision damage... this bastard will NOT die before I can reload anything. What the hell do I have to do to save this guy!? I mean seriously I'm tempted to drop the settings from hard to easy just to see if it's even possible or if I HAVE to go raise my charisma just to pass a single speech check.

You have to convince them to "kill you first" using speech, then they basically ignore kent while you fight, try to take out the main leader guy first as sometimes he will still kill kent as he is an A hole. (Also a tip, keep Charisma gear with you at ALL times, Regies suit, a formal hat, and some Charisma shades) you are able to bump up your skill at Will +5 Charisma by swapping the clothes, you can even change gear MID convo you just move the mouse over to the side a bit. But if you can't speech check him to target you first you will have a very hard time.

Well ****, I was afraid of that, if I don't walk out of the elevator and make my way out of there will the quest fail or is it safe? I'm not about to fail being the hero after all that corny dialogue. :p

Just save before hand and try it, worth a shot. Grab some stuff you need and then head back, if it failed. Re-load, if not. Heck yeah.

It took high charisma for me to save him. Out of the two charisma checks only one will allow you to fight normally without him shooting kent first. The other just makes his lackies flee, but he will still kill him.

I didn't need to convince them to kill me first (didn't even try that option actually, I tried intimidate them and it failed), just took out the leader and another guy with sniper shots to the head and the others focused on me but were a piece of cake to kill.
I had done every single "speak like silver shroud" before the last option, so perhaps that was it? I saw that mentioned somewhere else.

Alrighty, I hate gaming the system like that but man I wish headshots were actually lethal unless you had a helmet on.

You can talk your way into saving him. That was my solution.

During the discussion you have the option to tell the bad guys that they should kill you first instead of Kent. Can't remember if this was a charisma based persuasion option, but I don't think it was.

If you do this the enemies will ignore Kent and attack you instead. All you have to do is ensure that he doesn't get caught in the crossfire or exploded then.


Alternatively, you can use VATS to kill the two standing right behind him either without talking or immediately when they become hostile... but you have to be a crazy good shot and basically drop them each in one shot.

I believe there is also a second way into that room so that you can kind of sneak in behind or to the side of them and sneak attack them, but I can say how effect that would be since my character wasn't designed with stealth in mind.



Only sure fire way I know to avoid him dying is the talking method of saying to kill you first.

Wow that never occured to me. I just convinced the rest I was really the silver shoud (they flee) and then took out the leader using the crit thing (pressing spacebar) in vats.

Yeah, if you keep speaking like 'The Shroud' IIRC the 'minions' run in fear.

Yeah, IF you can kill them in 1 hit which is possible. It's even easier if you are a lower lv when you do this quest (Enemy hp scales with you and even more so on higher difficulties) But if he is trying to kill him and Kent is getting killed first, best bet is to either lower to very easy just for this enounter or raise the charisma.

yeah for sure, but at the time I did this quest i wasn't able to kill him easily as I played on survival right from the get go and refused to lower it for anything, so a head shot was dealing about 1/5th his life for me. So convincing him to attack me worked best cuz i was able to take him out and then fight off the others until it was clear.

Seriously tho, by using fully modded hunting rifle, jet, and lots of perks releated to this weapon i was able to kill both guys that target kent before they make a shot. That perk that makes targets fall on the ground is really helpful.

fail the speech checks use pyschojet and a decent weapon and you can kill them all before the effect wears off, kill shinjin first
if you are not doing enough damage use overdrive aswell
