Anyway, I loaded up that save just now, and that same building is now in the hands of 3 Minutemen who tell me the place has been secured. No sign of any robots, or any headless scavengers. I'm at a complete loss. This has to be the singlemost strangest Bethesda bug I've ever encoutered; if it is a bug. I just don't know. It's like the game kept running while I left. This even beats the time the dragon fell through the building in Skyrim, and disappeared never to be seen again.
I know there are plenty of random events going on in Fallout 4, and in many ways it adds to the gameplay, but I really don't think such events are supposed to confuse you to such a degree that you don't want to continue playing that savefile any more.
