center camera fix
this will center that camera so its above you player,it gets rid of the ADS zoom that i couldnt stand, or you can adjust the camera on the shoulder but get rid of the zoom it. you can also play with the numbers to best suit you. Go to your documents, pull up the fallout ini. thats all you need.
explaination of the meaning of this.
Y= the camera axis going up and down off the player position.
X= the camera axis going left to right off the player position in the screen.
z= the crosshair position it only moves up and down with the numbers
Fvanitymodemindist= is the mouse wheel zoom in before it takes you into 1st person,
fvanitymodemaxdis= is the mouse wheel zoom out towards you max zoom out limit.

now if you know how to graph on a chart or read a map that will make sense to you.

drop this file at the bottom of the grouping called (Pathfinding) make a one line space below it with this:

[Camera]
f3rdPersonAimFOV=70.00
fVanityModeMinDist=200.000
fVanityModeMaxDist=400.0000
fOverShoulderMeleeCombatAddY=0.50000
fOverShoulderMeleeCombatPosZ=15.0000
fOverShoulderMeleeCombatPosX=15.0000
fOverShoulderCombatAddY=0.50000
fOverShoulderCombatPosZ=30.000
fOverShoulderCombatPosX=20.000
fOverShoulderPosZ=30.000
fOverShoulderPosX=1.000
bApplyCameraNodeAnimations=0

recommendation leave your FOV at 70.000, and fvanitymodeminDist= no less that 50.000

for you if you want to keep the default shoulder camera in game, just at these lines

[Camera]
f3rdPersonAimFOV=70.00
fVanityModeMinDist=200.000
fVanityModeMaxDist=400.0000

same rules apply to this.

When i shoot at enemies my bullets hit to the right of them, even if they are close. Also if I am at a door frame etc and aim thru the open doorway I hit the frame instead. This even effects clicking on objects, it's all off center.
I read your post and I think using the X axis I can adjust it, I'm just not sure if this is right, or how much to adjust it.
It's like having to "Zero" a gun sigjht in real life.

if you have any FOV adjustments you need to get rid of them, keep the default settings from when the game puts it at. The crappy part i had to play around with it to get it to work for me. it was alot of changing the settings and reloading the game many times just to get it right and make it work for me. the best thing i can tell you is, input these values load the game, get a good default setting going in game. and make small adjustments from there. play around with it to make it best fit you. this is a great fix, the only problem i have and cant fix my self once i adjust this to different heights. I have an issue with looting from the third person while standing. its fine while im crouched and in 1st perosn. when you adjust i would do it in sets of 10.000. so add 10.000 to what ever value you have. and make sure there isnt a space between the equal sign and the number it will mess it up.

this isnt a perfect fix. only thing i seen to work so far, Nexus just put out some 3rd person cameras for a mod, you might want to check it out. Im sure they used the same Lines in Note pad as i did. but these are basic but i found out while i adjusting any of your Y axis values it doesnt do much for moving the view up and down.
Hope this helps

I know this is an old topic but thanks so much. Now I can finally use 3rd person mode without running into walls because of that weird 'shoulder camera'. And mods disable achievements but this one does not I hope. But it works so far.

Console commands and ini tweaks are safe. It's just plugin based mods that disable achievements (there's a mod that re-enables them). Just FYI.
Sadly looting can be a problem. It does not always recognize the crosshair for interaction purposes when centering the camera using those ini settings... So I often have to go back to 1st person just to loot. Especially smaller corpses are a pain. But achievements still work yes.

I suppose this is the mod for re-enabling achievements after using a mod to center that camera: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12465/?

I can't believe they didn't add a menu option to simply center the camera... That shoulder camera is such garbage imo.

Tried this out and it works as advertised. However, when you try to aim with a pistol while wearing power armour the camera tries to aim through the right shoulder plate.
Is there a fix to this problem?
Icontrol23TV May 10, 2017 @ 12:35pm
no there isnt. i never use the power armor in 3rd person always in 1st. but yes i understand the problem. i dont know how to write the code to make the camera adjust to other things in the game out of the normal player scale. sorry man.

My friend, can I just say, these settings are as damn near close to perfect as I could have possibly imagined.

Youre a legend.

you are welcome.

I *literally* do not care if this thread is 5 years old, buddy you saved my damn life. This fix worked like a CHARM. Not only did it fix my third person camera, which was locked onto the top of my character's head, but it also fixed his movement in third person, which had been made all lopsided by the off-rotated camera.

Dude, bless you.

You are welcome glad i could help. I know the struggle years ago when i was working on this and found the fix for it.

Thanks man,

Can I change the crosshair of combat guns, using always a dot instead of crosshair with commands lines like that in the Fallout.ini?
Make use the system of melee combat, always a dot (hold or draw a weapon), and only change the crosshair when you aim a item (standart square crosshair) (in 1st and 3rd person viem).

And last, change hidden keys bindings, like "hold breath" for example, when you aim with a scope (the standart is ALT, and I can't change that key binding).

Thank You in advance
