Have .44 Can't Find Ammo
I stumbled across a .44 snub nosed pistol, while exploring the area around Sanctuary. It's easily the most powerful hand gun I own; after a few mods it does around 60 hit points damage per shot. Unfortunately the merchants don't sell the ammo for it, except very infrequently.

To date I haven't shot one enemy with it That didn't drop with the first hit. Anyone know of a place that sell a lot of .44 ammo?

invest in the scrounger perk as early as you can and you'll pretty much be set on ammo for all guns throughout the game

I think I already have 2 pips for scrounging.

As long as you smash E on everything, it'll start to stack up pretty quickly.

early on .44 is a pita to find.. i don't think it will start spawning unless you are more south or a higher lvl... least that was my experience.

yah, .44 ammo is pretty rare. Just stash that pistol for when you do get a decent stash of it and stick with the more common types.

With skills maxed and mods it can reach something like 150 damage

Also try placing trash bins all over your settlements. They for some reason produce junk/ammo. But you need to go check them errry time. My latest char has 1 luck and i found 32 10mm ammo in one of them around lvl 5. Dunno maybe with perks you can get .44

Have you checked diamond city, there is a guy who sells every kind of ammo

.44 Ammo is as rare as snowflakes, even with scrounger perks. Even with water farms to sell for caps, buying .44 ammo (when it's even for sale) is expensive.

If you are going gunslinger style (as in, putting ranks into Gunslingerm instead of just liking the .44 snub nose's base damage), Seriously grab a Pipe Revolver. I'm not joking.

Pipe revolvers are the only Pipe guns that don't suck (though I wish they had a proper tactical sight). They use .45 ammo which is the second most common bullet in the wasteland, and can be modded into .308 later.

Rifles and automatics have lots of options, but for handguns you are much more limited. Pipe revolvers bridge that power gap between the 10mm and .44 revolver. They will still blow the legs off ghouls in one shot ranked up enough.
Noticed you start finding them like after lv20 but try the ammo crafting mod.
I do and make them this way.
But then Lead becomes your next imposible thing to find ...only sources i know of is pencil and lifting weights...not a lot of those around...you might be better off finding ammo than crafting it.
Or just be a badass and console command you some.

I'm find far more .50 than .44,,, but I use my 10mm more than my .44, tend to buy all the .44 and 10mm I see on traders.

the pipe pistols, like the .308 bolt action pistol, moded with a long barrel, etc, pretty damn good... looks weird as all hell with a recon scope on it... Frankly, I wish as gun nut leveled up, the appearance of modded pipe weapons improved.

Well there is a mod on the nexus that let's you craft ammo. I have tried that and i liked it a lot actually. You can chose how strict on resources it shall be. And if it needs perks to work.

As mentioned. Your best bet on hording ammo. Scrounger perk and higher levels, these are the main factors, lots of things tied to your level and exploration. Besides that also actively check and buy from vendors. Explore more maps to reveal more vendors and loot from more locations.

Definately, taken scrounger levels for the first time, ammo freaking everywhere,,, forget caps, deal in ammo. Got 1000 .50s you aren't using? You can buy a lot of crap with those.
