Wool. Or the Silo saga.
Science Fiction author named Hugh Howey wrote a series of novellas he called "the Silo Saga" about people surviving "the end of the world" in underground "silos", that are like cities. They have no contact with each other and are completely closed off. Exactly like the "vaults" of Fallout. There is even a nefarious plan in play by the creators, unknown to the residents. Exactly like Vault-Tec. Well not EXACTLY like it, or it would be plagiarism.

The novellas were written 20 years after Fallout 1. Seems like a game inspired a science-fiction writer, when usually it's the science-fiction or fantasy writer who inspires the story/plot of games.
Kind of neat.
