A vertibird crashed into my settlement
I was improving one of my settlements, when a vertibird attacked me. I tried to entince it away from my base, but because of the settlers it just stays there and eventually crashes right into my houses, destroying and ruining everything. Every damn time. It's not even funny anymore. Does anyone know what I could do?

PS: My last save was ages ago... because I was in building mode all the time. So reloading is not really an option.

I cringe every time I hear one of those things. I've not been attacked by one yet, but they sure make a mess when they crash on you :/

Question, could you scrap the vertibird in your settlement afterwards? Just curious.
Serrel Dec 7, 2015 @ 4:57am
Shame you didnt have a save just before it impacted as you could have used the trusty disable command.

Nope, can't scrap it, can't move it, it just lays there.

I managed to save when I saw it at the sky, have been reloading this save again and again to make it crash in another place. Can you tell me more about that command?

open console, select an object, input disable.... might take a few reloads to get right, you will occasionally disable the wrong item... i once disable dogmeat, annoying, hence, saves are good.

will work for the crashed vertibird, will work for corpses that won't despawn, will work for the holes left behind by molerats etc

my fav console command for cleaning up things

I never use the console and I'm really a noob with that kind of stuff. Could I break my game with this?

I guess, but using console for disable, and making sure to save beforehand, in case you disable the wrong thing, isn't much of a problem... I tend to limit it to inanimate crap, like corpses as i said, but it seems you can disable just about anything. Upside is, if you aim at a dead molerat and 'disable' and it doesn't vanish so you know you targeted something else by mistake, if you just input enable, it undoes it.

So, at the very least, youcan probably safely disable that crashed vertibird wreckage, even if you can't avoid the crash itself.

Alright, seems like that's my only hope. Even if it kinda feels like cheating to me. Damn game, why does it have to be so realistic anyway? :D

Well, thanks for your help!

Well, if it was properly realistic, you'd be able to strip down the crashed verti for scrap.
Magi Dec 7, 2015 @ 5:27am
You should probably be able to disable the vertibird while it's still in the air actually.

Yes, that's true

What I suggest you do it save as said and enter the console with Tilde key ` or @. It maybe best to use TCL (Press Enter) command first to fly up to the Vertibird and then left click the vertibird and type: Disable (Press enter), exit console. Fly back down to the ground and re-enter the console and type: TCL (Press enter), exit console.

Always save a hard save (Not quicksave) before doing any of this as it may have unforeseen consequences.

Edit: Forgot to add that if you do this and disable the wrong item, reload your save, never just continue disabling things. Also you will have to restart the game after you have saved (If all goes well) for achievements to work again.

Your house can be destroyed by explosions?

It can only damage your settlers, crops and turrets, everything else stays fine. One of those things crashed on my spectacle island yesterday but it managed to miss every important part of my settlement luckily.

I just cant wait for the brotherhood to become agressive towards me so my rocket turrets take care of that rubble scrap.
