Did I finish the game? (SPOILER ALERT)
I blew up the institute with the minutemen ... but I didnt get to blow any other faction up, was actually counting on moving against BOS at some point, that didnt happen.

Just watched a nuke go off and what looked like the ending cinematic ... but apart from the syndicate everyone is pretty much alife. Headed back to the castle, greeted Dance and he wants to continue his misison ... which is over?

Basically yes, you finished it if you played the game just for the story.

The minutemen is the ''Yes man/Independent vegas'' route. So yeah you will only kill one of the three main factions. Side with any of the three main factions and they will take out the other two main factions. The minutemen will always be neutral so you can actually finish the game incase you become enemies with everyone.

But I read that you have to choose side between BoS and Railroad, I never had to ....

Aaah okay, so at this point I could actually proceed with either Railroad or Bos to wipe one of them out?

I was just very confused because I did read this after finishing the game, felt like I was missing something.

It clearly states that you are instructed to go after the BoS first, that never happened.

I don't believe so. I would assume they will both not wanna work with you any more. In new vegas when you sided with yes man the legion and the NCR where just natrual and stopped helping you but not becoming enemies.

OP, I have the same ending. You can do quests for the railroald (involving even the hunting of BOS patrols and vertibirds), but you cannot do quests for BOS. Paladin Danse considers you a Paladin (in my game, at least), while at the airport the BOS consider you a civilian, but not an enemy. Plus, I cannot reach the Prydwen in any way, so I cannot speak to Maxson.
Paladin Danse praised me for obliterating the institute, he also recognized that I sided with the minutemen.
In railroald HQ, Desdemona thinks that Glory is dead, but she is alive... so it seems a bug to me. Desdemona praised me, like Danse, and she offered further missions.
I've done some quests for Desdemona and I built an extra base for railroads.
I feel like it's an unpolished quest line...

I supported the Railroad but used the Minutemen to blow up Institute. After that I had a dialogue with Garvey where he said BoS are too dangerous so let's blow'em up. So I did. Minutemen are now everywhere and have manned all the old army checkpoints.
