Preston won't stay put??
I know the quest Taking Independence is glitched to hell..... after I tried completing it. I thought the only problem was to not clear the Castle before you get the quest but it basically breaks Preston Garvey no matter what you do.

He won't stay put anywhere after this quest? He follows me but not like an actual companion, he'll just be anywhere in the loaded area I wander or fast travel to. I can talk to him fine but honestly he's like a weird harbinger of doom since he runs into every enemy in the area like his AI is turned completely off and even got me too close for comfort to the also-glitched Monsignor Plaza.

I tried having him as my companion and then getting rid of him but that didn't seem to do it. Anyone else have this problem??

Try going back to Sactuary since that's his home, that's where I talked to him after completing the quest. If no luck there, then use dogmeat as a companion and it might boot Preston back home to Sactuary.

I haven't had any problems with Preston, I don't use him as a companion and I leave him at Sactuary.

Yeah I tried the same thing. I added him as a companion hoping I would have no trouble finding him. Now when I fast travel, he is there for a brief moment and poof he's gone. If there is an attack he will show up briefly and then be gone. It's like he's an unwilling companion. I traded Valentine for him and now Valentine has gone missing. I guess until I get back on track with Valentine's quest for me, I won't see him either. I'm pretty much ready to give up on Preston though. All the other companions I choose before stayed with me.

I did. Actually I had to end up using commands just to get him back to Sanctuary becuase he immediately ran away from the Castle after the quest was done. (I didn't have him as a companion for it)

Does Dogmeat specifically have any effect on getting Preston to stay at Sanctuary? I've tried having other companions, that and I'm not even sure this counts as him "following" me.
