Lack of Companion Aggression
Is it me, or are companions completely blind and clueless when it comes to enemies? I can't count the number of times when I've had enemies shooting at my companion and they just blithely stand there (because *I* haven't been spotted yet) or they're surrounded by feral ghouls that are in mid-attack leap and the companion just stares at me until they get pummeled. And while enemy accuracy seems to be pretty high (around 90% in most cases, even while shooting at 200+ yards with a pipe pistol) companion accuracy is dreadful. And if you try giving them a melee weapon, the first thing they do is pick up a pipe pistol and bang away. Seriously? Strong passes over a Heated Super Sledge for a PIPE PISTOL?

I can't wait for the mods for the game. I would kill for a Fallout 4 version of Skyrim's Amazing Follower Tweaks mod.

I don't know, I seem to have more trouble with dogmeat attacking enemies that are nearby sometimes instead of just sitting back.

What angers me is how clever and intelligent enemy AI is but how painfully stupid companion AI is.

We need better control over them. A hot key for commaning them so we don't need to look at them for starts.

Yes companions seem too slow to engage in firefights and their aiming when they do is completely ♥♥♥♥.

I seem to have the opposite problem, that they become bloodthirsty the second a threat is around. I turn around, and they are gone, usually right in the thick of the enemies where they quickly get their ass kicked.

In my game cogsworth needs to be reprogramed. Hes a nut job who runs off and kills anything that even looks funny at him, or me.

This has been my experience to, whenever I've cleared out a section of a building/dungeon/something and start looting until I'm overburdened, I can never find my companion to unload some junk to them since they've always detected an enemy somewhere far off on another floor that they've decided needs killing right now.

Same with the "opposite experience" people. I'm trying to sneak into a room under stealth and Piper comes charging in, waving her pistol around and yelling at the raiders.

Fixed.
I miss the companion menu from New Vegas. Companions either get aggro'd by a boat fly 200 away or fail to attack when a group of more lurks are mauling them.

Oh...and the fact that companions keep 'idling' if you stand still for so much as 2 seconds. I hate needing to get something from a companion's inventory and then having to track them down because they decided that *now* was a good time to wander 500 feet away to sit down and have a drink. Alone. In a building.

thats not called "lack of aggression" thats called lack of "tactical awareness".

MORE aggresion will only mean companions will be aggresive and seek enemies and pick on fights (break your stealth), and never know when to run away to fight another day (foolhardy run into land mines and hail of bullets or missles.)

we need less aggresion and more tactical awareness for companions.

yeah I had the same trouble with them they just stand there staring at me while mobs of ferals pumb them . XD funny thing is that it happens again and again, then sometimes they even stare at the feral until it touches them. I'm glad your mentioning this dumb problem.

My Companion is top gun since I chose Inspirational Perk; it's in Charisma, tier-8. Just the first lev is good, (Companion does more damage) but you can go the whole hog, upto lev 3.
[oh it's necro, still try it].

The only worth while combat companion is Dogmeat or Strong. With the associated perks, they make excellent tanks and distractions. For whatever build you prefer. The Lone Wanderer Perk and Dogmeat in particular you get a very strong synergy.
