What happens when you give Sturges the holotape?

I gave Sturges the damn holotape and I'm still doing dozens of damn protect settlements missions.

i dont want to protect any more settlements from kidnapping and i dont want to side with the railroad, is my game just bugged? wtf?

Yeah I hate going back to Sanctuary. I nearly always get some settler asking me rescue a friend or family member, or Preston wants me to go help some settlement. I thought I was the general, aren't I supposed to be giving the orders? If it's so damn important, take a bunch of Mintemen and go help the bloody settlement yourself.

Do you mean the holotape with the data you snagged from the Institute?
After that the Minuteman questline only continues if you get banished from the Institute ( shoot Shaun or a Scientist and get the hell out of there by using the elevator in the middle and on top fast travel out ). Then you go and talk to Preston Garvey and the Quest " Defend the castle" will kick in. For that you need to have build artillery and I think you need to have about 8 settlements.

You can talk to Sturges and get the tape back. Then you can do the RR or BOS ending. Giving the tape to Sturges does nothing with the MM quests. You still get them. That is not a bug.

Preston will give you one quest after another, endlessly. This is because the developers thought it would be cute to make it a role play thing where you are not allowed to say no.

What you need to do to end the chain is finish the current quest you are on and NOT report back to Preston. Eventually the quest will time out as completed and you will break the chain of endless quests (until you talk to him again or he corners you in Sanctuary and talks to you.)

You get infinite (it seems) requests to protect settlements if you help Preston, that's just to keep you busy. But you can always travel to other parts of the area and shoot up raiders, find Danse at one of the police stations, and get more quests from him or other people you meet.

Or check your Misc quests to find things to do. Talk to shop keepers in various towns and they might have quests for you. One shopkeeper in Goodneighbor (Daisy?) had a quest to return a 220 year old library book back to the library.

Evenutally the Prydwen flies across the sky and you can go there and see what's up there, you will likely find a quest from one of the BOS guys.
