How Does One Make an "On-Off" Switch? (answered like 2 years ago)
I'm making my Red Rocket garage have electicity and lightbulbs and such and I was wondering how I would make some kind of toggle effect, would I need some kind of adapter?
I'm no Electrician and well... I never delved too far into settlement building, now I'm dressing up this old house and I want to make some kind of 'light switch' so I can turn my lights off at night or something?

There are switchable power pylons.

there are switches in the electric crafting menu

So instead of using say... A normal pylon there's one with an off-on switch?
I just connect the pylon from the generator to the uh... The what? The reciever thing..?

yeah, basically all you do is connect it to the pylons. From there just add lights there's a certain are of effect that electrical appliances power up.

Yeah, I've notice the energy only goes so far, kinda wish they displayed the area-of-effect y'know? Like it's a circle and it's colored and it's basically telling you what is "the electricity is in this radius" yeah?

In my experience it's not (just) a radius or distance, the power seems to travel through the building that the connectors are placed on (and a generator won't power the building it is placed on because reasons). Sometimes certain parts of the building are not considered powered unless the connector is attached to that area.

Wait a minute! That means I can still power a single building with one generator by having reciever points at sections of the building right?! :D

I started experimenting with circuitry a little here

Don't forget, you can also just turn off you generator.
But if you want a lightswitch, they don't work that way but you can substitute some methods:
generator -> switch box -> normal power pylon -> power conduits all over the building
generator -> switched power pylon -> power conduits all over the building
I'm sure there's a way to use the pressure plate or trip wires and the counting power pylon to make a binary switch but I haven't played with it yet.

Wait.. can you light up the signage? My only problem is that I've got a dorm right where those connectors are :) I'll have to get creative..

You can't like up the signs, no.
But what I was doing was making sure the building itself would be light up, you see I have lights in this garage spread throughout.

Ah. Yeah I've lit up the place too! Lights look really great underneath the roof of the garage part. I'm slowly turning it into a massive base on multiple levels. It's a lot of work to make sure that settlers can get around properly.
