Does Dogmeat have a quest? And how do I get it started?

How long do I need to travel with dogmeat to initiate his quest (if he has one)?

I got max affinity with Piper and Codsworth and none had a quest, i don't think Dogmeat has one neither.

Piper does have a quest, you have to do that story for her. Anytime you get a person perk that means you maxed them out, you can't max out without their quest.

Codsworth and dogmeat do not
